The so called "Moan" is actually advice aimed at stopping you wasting your valuable time and effort for little return.

Just to expand on this, if you are intending to do this to further your SEO then it will be pretty pointless as the relevancy of links gained will have little value (in most cases) to better your SERPS.

If you intend it as a PR gain then think again as the associated PR passing related to web ring/link farms is very very minimal.

If you intend it to increase traffic then this may have a positive effect depending on the relevancy of the link/placement of the link and content of the site.

A couple of questions:

Is there any control over the websites that include your link?
What efforts are being made to prevent bad neighbourhoods from getting involved?
Is there a control; process for the adding of redirects to misrepresent the original link?

Again this isn't intended to be a "moan" but i value the linking strategy I place on sites that make me money and to undervalue any link and potentially jeopardise a SERP listing is simply not worthwhile. However I also understand that this may be a completely new and revolutionary linking idea and as such if you can provide concise details then you may get a better response and less "moaning" as you put it...

Yeah, you will be better to add your site to the sites on this list...

However, I do hear that you should be selective. As in, choose sites which are not just full of links but do have some content as well. Otherwise, Google will not see it as valid. How true that is I am not sure.
