1. Google Base is a great way to post you items.....it appears on Product search when people do searches
U get a few people seing your items and sometimes bring traffic to your site!
2. A lot of people also talk about creating a Lens at Squidoo ....I dunno if it really works though.
3. Think About Adwords from Google.
4. Depending on what you sell, advertising on forums like this one is the best way.....but on almost everysingle forum like this you have to be a registered seller etc.

You might want to give blogging a try? I believe if it's done correctly, it can be helpful (and cost effective!). Here is an article that explains more about the benefits of blogging as well as how to get started if you decide you are interested in giving it a go.

Hope this is helpful!

Treat an online business the same way as an offline business. Offline promotion can just be as important as online promotion. Most people neglect it, more fool them.

You have to advertise and promote your site. PPC for immediate advertisng, careful planning of offline advertising for medium term and SEO/Free online promotion for the longterm. Most people do it in reverse.

Offline advertising is my marketing specialty, I have 'sold off the page' since the early 90's both magazine and daily newspapers/tabloids.

It can work very well but you have to plan carefully, monitor it daily and most importantly be in a position to handle the business. Sounds odd but imagine getting 5000+ telephone calls everyday!?!? No use getting all that business if you can't answer and try and convert, or you are just burning money.
