Default Starting out...

Hi guys
Well, I hope I'm posting in the right place but I'm sure it'll be moved to the right place if it isn't
Basically, I've set up my own eshop to sell designer clothing and accessories from DevilWear. It's been open for a couple of weeks now but I haven't made one single sale and its pretty demoralising considering the amount of time I've invested in this project
I've listed the site on numerous search engines (I know that it could take weeks to get listed on some engines), I've listed in scores of shopping directories (mostly UK based), I've signed up to adwords and MSN's version (am getting click through's from adwords by the way), I have listed items in ebay and CQ Out (hoping for the advertisement) but all to no avail! I haven't even managed to sell anything on the auction sites!!
At the moment it seems I'm averaging between 30 and 50 hits a day, so people are obviously stopping by. This leads me to the conclusion that there is something drastically wrong with my site or at least something I have overlooked.
Could some of you wise people take a look and let me know what you think on where I am going wrong? Any advice would be really, really gratefully received.
Thanks.
Tony

It does take time, but are doing the right thing it getting links to it.

I'd look at your keywords as there is none on the home page, but then when you look at the menswear>bags there is keywords but with quotes, I don't think the SE's will look at them.

Also the main text of your home page is an image, SE's can't read text that is in a image.

Yup. I took a look, too. Interesting theme. I like to be able to see the categories more up front, but that's me. Your style will hook a lot of not me and there are lots of those.

It will happen. Be patient. Market the site.

Every letter you send out has the web address on it. If it isn't in the design, add it manually and make sure it's in the next reprint. Every email you ever send has the link in its signature block. The site address is on your business card and compliments slip. Every invoice has it in there too. Plus, crucially, do a google on keywords and follow doubled_77's advice. Learn and implement all you can about web site marketing.

But you are already getting visitors, so it is only a matter of time before you get buyers.

Just two questions.

First, what's this?

Is it your site or not? Who is shipping from the UK if not you? That's wearing my potential buyer's hat. Take the statement off unless you have a reason greater than just trying to be too honest. When people receive their goods, in good condition and in good time at the price quoted, do you think they give a s**t where they were shipped from? So why raise questions in their mind before they've even had a look?

Second, where's your Privacy Statement? If I give you my personal details, why haven't you told me what you are going to do with them? Which makes me worried you may sell it to a list for spammers to buy. Tell me you won't and I'll probably deal with you. Your Privacy Statement does that.

You could try Google Adwords if you want instant traffic.

Nothing obviously wrong with your site, but I'm not a big fan of that background image.

Just to say thanks to everyone that's taken the time out to reply. I haven't worked out how to multi-quote on this forum so it'll have to be one post at a time.

This is my first attempt at this type of thing. When you say keyworde being mentioned on the homepage, do you mean I should have things like 'designer t-shirts' or 'designer handbags'- that sort of thing?
Also when you mention menswear>bags- where are the keywords you can see in quotes? I tried looking but couldn't see them. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place?
I take on-board what you say about the image but I never knew SE's couldn't read over them as there are millions of site's that are similar.
Again, thanks for taking the time out to reply.

I'm definitely doing what you say in your first paragraph so no probs there.
In relation to the 'being in the Republic of Ireland but ship from the UK' thing, it is a case of being too honest I suppose and definitely nothing sinister. I was just worried if people saw my address as listed in Dublin but all my prices, shipping, etc kind of UK orientated they may have frowned upon it. Probably naivety on my part.
I do have a privacy statement and I'm glad you brought this up else I probably wouldn't have noticed that its tucked away with the T and C's!

As I said in my very first post, I do use adwords and I am getting hits from them (i could probably to with increasing the daily spend though )

Your product images are below the fold. Place them prominantly above the fold in the center. Keep your verbiage in the middle even below the fold.

Place your Visa/MC logos near the top and above the fold as well.

Also, in general, your font for your copy is too large and makes the site seem a bit amateurish.
