Question Ebay Prices and Wholesale Prices: Where's the Profit?

Hey guys and gals,
I have been comparing prices of a lot of stuff from several wholesale website and ebay for the last 2 weeks. What I found was that all of the stuff on the wholesale websites are usually the same price or more expensive that stuff on ebay.
I have looked at DHGate for Ipod, Ipod accessories, Video Games, Game Systems and accessories but cant find anything that would yield a cent of profit on ebay. For e.g. a xbox360 wireless controller on DHGate is selling for $49 or so with free shipping. The same thing sells on ebay for $48 or less including shipping. So where's the PROFIT?
A lot of electronic stuff that people sell on this forums is also expensive on ebay.

So my question is how are these powersellers on ebay making profit on there items? Or more importantly how can they afford to sell it at those prices if most wholesale places I've looked sell for the same price. Is ebay turning into more of a wholesale auction house?

Maybe I'm not looking at the right wholesalers. Then again a powerseller doesnt want anyone else to know where he/she gets the stuff from. Also they probably buy in a huge amount in order to lower the cost of single item. I would assume probably in 1000 of quantity.

I've been dying to find out the secret behind this. If anyone can guide in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

Firstly you are looking at the most competitive products so that is not a good start.

Apart from the consoles, all the other stuff (accessories) are made in China and the only way to make money is buyig direct from the factory/manufacturer in large quantities (serious quantities on very cheap items like cases etc) and not from middlemen like DHGate.

Even then, the margins are so small you actuall make more on the shipping than the actual product.

I strongly agree with MustHaveMobiles. Start small and work your way up with bigger and better products.

It's Christmas, People are buying for their kids.
Have a look at selling toys, books, stationery sets, giftware stuff. Everybody seems obsessd with selling electronics. One of my customers last year was making an absolute killing on Ebay, all he sold was cufflinks. There's a market for anything why go for the most competitive one?

A hint - Don't use "stock" images. Have at least one of the items on hand, even if using a dropshipper. Take a picture of the item in a natural setting, dress it up a bit. Make it look inviting.

Another hint - bundle several items. Have a little package. Coffee mug, poker chips, shot glass all with the same team logo. Two or three dog breed things together, etc.

And find all sorts of things besides electronics by clicking my top red signature link below. Here's more on that subject - I'd Never, Ever Pay For A Wholesale List!! BUT...

What makes you think they're making a profit?

Ebay pricing is almost wholesale pricing. I recently wrote an article on my blog about sourcing from Ebay and have put up a free program you can download that will search Ebay for you for any item at wholesale prices.

Check it out here
