Its all depends on how much you want to spend! You can get good hosting for around $5.00 - $10.00 (US) if you go with a free cart program, say OSC or Cubecart then that bit is free, so all you are left with is a webname.

What do I do, well my webname costs me £9.99 for a .com every 2 years, and that points to my website (hosted with Pete - but there are others on this site that can help as well). I use cubecart for my shop, and that is VERY easy to setup and run yourself.

Regards

Sorry I agree, SEO needs to be done, I am lucky and don't have a lot of other companies that do what I do, and I am also selling a product that others don't. So SEO has become a lot less important to me.

There does not have to be much, if any, SEO cost. It depends on what you are selling and where you are selling it. Someone like Tango34uk, who has done his homework and picked a dedicated niche group to concentrte on can do quite well on forums and blogs. By chatting with members nd building some trust he can become a supplier in that fashion.

Getting traffic to your site is important, I'm not mini9mizing that, but there are ways other than sweating over where you are listed on Google each day. SEO is not the goal, page rank is not the goal, sales are the goal - money in the bank. And that can be achieved with little outlay.

paul., many here have online stores with me. Frankly, some come and go, may last 3 months and give it up. Others have been with me for quite some time and are very satisfied with their shops. Like anything else, they do take some time getting going, and then some upkeep is required, pulling down old stock, adding new, etc.

You can get started with me for under $ 6. Plus your domain name. Most don't go with the monthly fee, but pay quarterly or annually, which brings down the per month cost. Most use the free CubeCart V3, but some opt for the $ 129 V4. And some use other carts entirely.

Send me an email at pete at smallbusinesshoster dot com and I'll be glad to go into details with you.

well NOT very well lol. firstly i just dotn trust ajsquare considering the way they have handled me as a potential new client, its taken them nearly 4 months to do justa quote, most of which i have been the one havign to contact them askign what the hell they are doing.....which i have also had a go at them, becuase of the constant emails ive been getting telling their potential customers about their grerat service etc.

It quite hard fidning the right and correct information you need, espcially when you yourself do not know much about servers, websites, desins, time period, costs, legal requirements. and when you dont knopw much about that you tend to try take in what you can and find out from others what is true and a "real" quote.

Like myself, im unable to get a loan or finaical help from family as i really have no iea what its going to cost with website design, maintence, hosting and server costs, and one of the reasons is becuase when you ask companies ..well in my case , instead of giving you a rogh idea , they instantly ask you what your budget is , and what your busienss idea is, becuase on more than one instance ive been laughed at literally over my business idea, so instead of giving me a rough quote they have actually told me to forget it "you have no hope"

It seams a great shame you have been treated like that, As we all say it depends on what you want. But the hosting and server costs / webnames will cost you, but not a great deal.

As for web design, if you ar after a shop, and I would always recommend CubeCart 3 (Its free and does 99% of what most people need, stright out of the box), so it just comes down to design and settingup.

I don't do web deisgn, but have in the past done a few small sights for people. When I did, I billed at either £15.00 per hour for hourse worked, or fixed fee, normally worked out out 1 hour per page x £20.00 + 25%.

I would always as part of the design, teach my customers how do run their site themselves, so after I had finished they could do the rest of the work themselves.

As I said I don't do this any more, as things like CubeCart have made the job so easy, anyone can do it themselves.

Getting traffic, to your site, I have never found hard, but then I always "think out side the box" when it comes to advertising, and have a few ideas that I would happily share with you, that you could do that would give you a lot of good hits, and massive sales - if done right, with very little amountof money to spend.

If you need any help, send me a email? As I said I don't do web design, but I would should how easy it is, you don't need others to do it for you.

regards

The website will intially be a auction site, but i have bigger ideas for the site which wil include other subjects. obviously can not divulge too much detail becuase i dont wish to have anyone else nick the idea. and im so fed up with those poep[le that say its not possible or "why compete against ebay" and with the last one ive recently said, well look at ebay at the moment, the current climate needs changing, but like myspace bebo took them on and have done even better and people didnt think it wa spossible.

i may contact you later today.
