Default Website advertising

Hi,

I'm starting up a website, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good advertising campaigns.

I've read a bit on hypersubmit, but I really don't understand what i'm reading.

Ad words, key words, meta tags etc, just goes over my head

Has anyone any good suggestions for sites with info on this kind of thing (that doesn't require you to understand the jargon before you begin) or any good ways of advertising#

Thanks

What is your target audience? Is this a product / service for local, national or international?
What is your advertising budget?
If your retail, like us, we advertised heavily in local and surronding area, local information websites, forums, free papers and for our online store we have advertised in local free papers for other areas - and on the odd site but only 1 as we dont know the popularity of those sites.
If you want to advertise on one particular site ask the site admin for traffic stats to see how many hits (unique and returning) they get, if they wont give them then dont bother as most will be happy to give it to get advertising revenue.

Google AdWords!
They're the best to be honest. But the minimum you can spend per month is £30
But it does get a significant amount of traffic to your site.
I have got a £25 Google Adwords voucher if you want it, free.

How does the adwords work? Is it hard to set up?

I will be dealing in Online items only, no B&M shop

Mens' clothing at the moment, wii games, really anything that can make a bit of profit.

Search engines are the key to having a low cost, low maintenance website. Remember, search engines only index words in the form of what information is on your page and what information is in the code behind it. By keeping each page or set of pages relevant to what a customer would search for to find your products can help your rankings. SEO is a techie word for optimising your site in such a way the search engines can find it easily.

It's not an exact science and many companies will do it on a ROI / Profit / Order ratio. Which means you only pay a small amount up front to optimise the site, which is done over 6 months and when you reach the agreed number of sales you pay for the work you've had done on the site for the past 6 months. That way it works in everyones interest to get the it seen by the search engines.

You can do it yourself by searching the webmaster forums. As far as advertising goes I always say that 90% of advertising doesn't work but find the 10% and start to fill your boots.

I've been optimising and building e-commerce sites for 7 years and making money for our clients. That's why I'm here... I'd like a bit of the action.... and I also want a new venture.

Good luck with the site.

post the URL and I'll take a look at the code for you and give you some pointers.
