Hello. I plan to open an online store and wondered if anyone has dealt with either of the company's for e-commerce hosting:

http://www.siteground.com/ecommerce-hosting.htm

http://www.condorhosting.com/

I registered my domains at GoDaddy (they're parked), and wondered if it would be better to use them or someone else? But SiteGround offers a huge amount of space for your buck.

P.S. I've been reading your site. It's great, I love all the info!

Forget space. There isn't a shopping cart out that needs more than 100MB. Getting 20GB isn't going to make any difference, since it will just be sitting unused.

I have dozens of shopping cart clients on 200MB accounts and have never had a problem. I guarantee to double the size if they get close. The server is set to tell them when they get to 80% and no one has ever gotten close.

Bandwidth is unlimited, so that is not a consideration. I guarantee my clients they will never run out of, or get billed for additional space, bandwidth, email accounts or anything else. Only restriction is the number of domains. One domain - $ 4.49 per month. 6 domains - $ 8.99 per month. 20 domains - $ 13.99 per month. With each plan, server space and bandwidth are guaranteed.

Avoid GoDaddy, their shopping cart is lousy. The only thing they have that's a good deal is their domain registration. The rest is over-priced and under-valued.

Simon, you may wish to keep in mind that Pete is in the US and is therefore probably a minimum of five hours behind UK time. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing he is probably still sleeping..

Simon, your msn got my first reply of the day. I'll be around most of the day. I'd like to say long after you're asleep, but some of you guys amaze me by still being there at midnight my time.

Both are highly recommended and use the Equinix data centers.

I've no experience of using either but 750GB for $10 month has GOT to be massively oversold space, and their addon extras like SSL are are expensive. I get the feeling that both of those sites are reselling someone else's servers. A good place to research potential hosts is http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

Like Pete says none of the open source carts require more than a couple of hundred MB.

I personally have used both, and they're not oversold like most others. My ping times are faster on their shared hosting plans versus others running VPS and dedicated servers with other hosts. Sites load faster as well. Do some research...they're not reselling others' space. Google midphase and hostican...

They advertise such #s as they know most people will use under 100MB, but they keep up with the marketing of other hosts. The same thing goes for contrast ratio on HDTVs now; even though there's no standard for contrast ratio, the manufacturers keep up with one another on this (such as 30,000:1 dynamic claims) and would be stupid not to take part - unless they don't want sales to the novice buyer (99% of the market).

90 percent of my clients use less than 100MB.

Those that use more are multi-domains with more than one site, or lawyers with lots of docs, that sort of thing. Not the first shopping cart near 100. I start them with 200 and guarantee they will get more if needed. $ 4.49 a month and never outgrow it. Only limit - one domain.
