Hello everyone,

I know nothing of HTML editing, but in saying that, my webmaster has sent me a brief description on how to edit the code after I made a request about changing some of the colours on my website.

What I was to do was go in to my control panel (cPanelx) and then select:
file manager/public_html/stylesheet.css/edit.

Below is some of what appeared:

--------------------------------------------------------
.orderEdit {
font-family : Verdana, Arial, sans-serif;
font-size : 10px;
color: #70d250;
text-decoration: underline;
}
BODY {
background: #e079c0;
/* background: #0099CC; */
color: #575757;
margin: 10px;
--------------------------------------------------------

What I would like to do, is change some colours on my site.
Say for example, I wanted to change colour #575757, but it's listed more than once within the coding. Is there a way of changing the colour numbers in 'one hit'.
or do I have to change them one at a time?

Any and perhaps all of your help on this matter would be greatly appreciated, as my website business is virtually grinding to a halt.
Thanks in (a large) part to my 'webmaster'.

Thanking you all in advance.

Firstly, take a backup of your original files so that you can restore them if/when things go wrong. If you can't do this then you shouldn't proceed any further.

Secondly, when you edit the file, there's nothing to stop you from changing everything within the file in one fell swoop however, you might want to be sure of what you're changing and the effect it will have. If you change everything in one fell swoop then you might not be able to tell what change caused which particular effect.

you've been advised many times about replacing your webmaster and it would appear that the advice has fallen on deaf ears. YOUR choice of webmaster is YOUR responsibility. YOUR business is YOUR responsibility. Does YOUR webmaster really control YOUR business? If so, then it's not really YOUR business is it?

Let me ask you this; if your business was a booming success, who would it be thanks to (in a large part)? Your webmaster? If not, then he can't be accountable for its failure either.

Your webmaster and your website should be elements of your business. Your webmaster should not be the be all and end all of your business.

Do you have any sort of marketing campaign? How do you expect potential customers to find you? There are thousands of similar websites selling similar products. Why should people buy from you?

When are you going to accept that the fate of your business rests entirely on your head and the decisions that you make?

i.am.will, and to all,

I was in near completion of a lengthy reply to 'i,am,will', when my connection disconnected and I had to reconnect.
By the time I got back to the forum, my message that I was compiling had gone. Is there any way of my retrieving my unfinished message so I can complete it?

Unfortunately due to the nature of the text boxes used in the forums there is no way to retrieve your text.

For the future, do what I do, copy your whole text BEFORE click the add reply button. It was a regular problem we had in Africa with bad internet access and people typing long emails in hotmail only to click send and find that the internet connection has broken.

It's a good idea to type the longer responses in "Notepad" or what have you. Save the file then copy/paste it in to the forum reply box.

Some "notepad" type programs incorporate a spell-checker, which I find handy for catching the occasional typo.

i.am.will,

Thank you for your reply.

Your first ref.
I don’t know how to use ‘Easy Populate’ at all, nor backup files, so I’d have to think about that one.

Your second ref.

What I meant was, say the same colour number I wish to change is listed more than once within the coding, do I have to alter them one at a time to change the colour number, or can I do it all at once?

I’d like to change the colours to the background and title bars, but don’t know what to look for to do it.

Indeed I have and yes, I have listened to the good advice that has been given me.

As regards the programming of my website, yes my webmaster does control things, which is so much the frustrating for me.

I have spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds on advertising in magazines, with little return on my investment.

As I've said to you on here and via email, I'd be more than happy to solve your website problems. Your current "webmaster" is doing nothing positive at all for you.

Wrestlemag,

Within the last three days, I've had an offer of help regarding my website from a regular Forum member. I have yet to answer in reply to his proposal.

And now,......yet another offer of help, from your goodself.

Thank you for your offer, I will give it great consideration.

Since your webmaster is the reason why your business isn't a success an obvious question is what makes this particular webmaster so irreplaceable that you haven't yet 'shown him the door'?
