I was looking through my collection of domains today. Things I bought (sometimes years ago) with the intention of building something on them, and some with fairly basic sites. I think it's time for a good pruning and have about a dozen for sale.

I've found a couple of websites that do this kind of domain brokerage and have added one of my domains for sale on each to try out their service. I've also searched and looked manually on here for relevant info, but didn't find what I was looking for. There was an old posting by ebookaholic saying "don't use sedo". Oops, I just did. There's nothing stopping me removing it, though.

Anyway, what's your opinion? Is there still a market for selling on domains? Would you recommend anywhere? Any advice?

Some of the domains aren't that great but some must be worth a few bob or two.

Thanks in advance.

forums.digitalpoint.com I use. If you think some of the domains are worth a fair price, you may have more success on Sitepoint.

Thanks, Phil. I like Sitepoint - maybe I should've thought of that myself but I never look at their forums. I'll go and look now.

I tried to sell a few sensible named domains a few weeks ago, but had no joy. Mind you, I didn't do any aggressive marketing, I just used the 'for sale' options in SEDO and namecheap.

I just let them expire in the end as I didn't have time to do anything more with them. They all seem to be still available to purchase, so at least that proves that I didn't miss out on profits!

Good luck with your sales.

Thanks.

I'm not sure that there really is much of a market in selling on domain names. I've never had a problem buying a domain at cost for whatever I want (meaning: something suitable, not the best domain possible) - and I only buy .com or .co.uk these days. I don't know what sort of person, or business, would be so desperate for a particular name that they would pay so much over the odds. Well, something like loans.com would obviously be snapped up, but anything less desirable - such as a two-worder - much less so, I think.

I've had no luck so far, but there again I was only testing the water with a couple of OK domains, before trying anything with any of the better ones.

Should I PM you or email you or something? Not sure it's appropriate to list them here.

Also some might seem like strange purchases but they were bought for a specific reason.

Reasons (for example):

1. I'd had too many beers at the time and it seemed like a good idea to buy it.

2. I have the full professional version of WordTracker and if I found a niche - ie the competition was tiny compared to the number of searches - then that seemed like a good idea too.

3. I just liked the name and thought it would come in useful one of these days.

4. I had an idea for a project but never got around to it.

Some are fairly mediocre but I think some aren't bad, and I'd want a good price for them or I'll just hang on to them.

OK then, here's an example: travelaz.com - could be travel A to Z, travel Arizona, play on the word "travellers". Loads of possibilities, it's a reasonably short domain and the travel market is fairly lucrative. I don't need it because I do all that stuff via my expat site.

I've got weddings, golf, mortgages, PDA, and various other stuff too. Sounds like a lot but I only have about a dozen for sale.

And if anyone will take CJSucks.co.uk off my hands (could be a good "adult" site) I'm open to offers.

Yeah a PM or an email would be fine.

I'm sure that Pamela Anderson's character in Baywatch was CJ. Just saying!

CJSucks? Exactly! I never watched Bay Watch but this has been mentioned before.

I'll contact you now - I prefer email to PMs so I'll see what's possible, or send you a PM with my email address.
