Has anyone had any dealings with www.linkmarket.net ?

It looks like a good idea in principle but before I invest any time in looking into it I'd like to know if anyone else has signed up?

I managed to log into a client's account, they've been signed up with these people for a while to promote their site full of kids stories. They were offered tons of links, but all for viagra and porn, so I guess that answers my question!

So onwards to the next idea, these people promise to place relevant one way links on article sites, and at 1000 inbound links for $20 it looks at the moment to be too good to be true. I might just sign up (using a sacrificial site) then report back here to let you know what happens but I would love to know your impression first.

This obviously isn't an affiliate link -

Ok, this is fast becoming a case of me answering my own posts! But Google guidelines say this -

Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

And this page makes things brutally clear -

Talking to yourself is a sign of madness, you know!

Buying links from random websites that have no relevance to your own site(s) = waste of time and money.

If you're wanting to spend $20 a month on 1,000 links, I'd suggest you spend that money elsewhere. I'm sure you could find somebody to submit your site to article directories etc for less than that.

Of those 1,000 links, I'd be surprised if more than 10% were from relevant and/or beneficial websites.

Reciprocal linking is a great idea - if you want to get in a time machine and turn the clock back a decade or so. I'd suggest building traffic instead. The days of mindlessly swapping links are long gone. And the automated messages telling you, "It will be a great benefit to you to exchange links with my brand new website, which BTW has no traffic, and will help you with your search engine rankings..."

C'mon. 1,000 links for $20? Must be too good to be true (as you've already figured out).

It's not impossible to make a living online - just don't expect to get-rich-quick or achieve instant success. It's all possible, but it usually takes hard work too. Best of luck!
