How to Promote your Website????
Hey everyone. Im looking for some advice on promoting my up and coming (i.e brand new and virtually non existant lol) Designer Clothing retail website. I know there are a few people on the forum who have alot of knwoledge and experiance in this area and have talked with them a few times but havent really had the time to start up till now. Could anyone give me any advice to attract new customers on the web? Thanks for your help

Thanks for that. I have thought about using adsense but find that with popular searched items like clothing, to get any decent traffic results or compete with more established retailers you end up paying a hell of a lot per visitor to your site. I will probably use them to an extent but am looking for more dynamic ways to promote, if there are any?? Thanks Jeff

I used pricerunner.com for a while but it was 35p and click and the conversion wasn't as good as they make out.
As long as you have the basics such has meta tags etc and exchange links with sites (I'll exchange when your up and running) relevant to yours then thats a start. You can use adsense to gain some money from your site, but you will need traffic to start and doing the above should give you a start.
Musthavemobiles (Mike) has a great forum to help people get going on eBay and online, where I have picked up alot of good info. And as a thank you to Mike, you can find his forum in my signature at the bottom

That forum reallyis quite helpful. Do you find that you make alot of money with adsense, as i have never made more than a few pounds a month. I suppose it depends on website traffic?

I've spent quite a lot of money on advertising and find that the best advertising you can get takes some time to master but is completely free. I've tried the pricerunner/shopping.com/kelkoo thing and got very little results. I do use adsense but on on general keywords like brand names. The best advertising is free and includes links in Ebay auctions (yes I know this is not allowed but I've been doing it for years, am a powerseller and have feedback of over 500), forum signatures and online directories. The more links you have around the web, the more chance people have of finding you and the higher you go in the search engine results pages (serps). About 60% of all my traffic comes from serps from Google. About 30% of the traffic come from affiliate sites. I'm also going to be setting up a merchant account with an affiliate network which I hope shall bring many more visitors to my site.

in advertising and marketing you need to think outside of the box, nowerdays people are very savy in terms of most people dont just click stuff because you say its good, they need to be offered something in return for visiting your site.

That's very true, but if they aren't able to find your site, then you don't have to think of what you mentioned...

Has anyone ever tried advertising their website offline? Would it be worth advertising in newspapers or related magazines or Would it be to expensive? Im hoping that with the brands that im looking to sell, im goin to attract alot of football fans as this type of expensive designer clothing is very popular with them . Any suggestions???
Thanks Jeff
