is this what you need to run a homemade website:

Template
Hosting
Domain Name
Cart

what i was thinking is i:

use my own bought template
hosting from betterwebspace
domain name from 123 reg
oscommerce cart software

would this work or not,

Thats the bones of it yes, you also need a payment processor...

Then the battle for traffic to your site begins, well worth it though in my opinion.

That will get you up and running

You need something like paypal or nochex to take payments from your store. OsCommerce supports both of these.

Then its all down to promotion as MustHaveMobiles says.

That is all you need to start, but you will need to invest alot of time in it!

You could go through all that trouble of building your site, but I would suggest an all-in-one solution (full e-commerce service) that includes templates, own domain, shopping cart software, payment options etc.) ...Everything you need to run an e-commerce website
