Do you know why people get ripped off by wholesale scams? GREED
Do you know what to do to avoid scam? Stop being greedy, and I’m serious
Here are few lines to repeat 10 times before you place any order to a new supplier found on Alibaba or any other wholesale list:
50% discount on a brand new 80Gb iPod doesn’t exist
75% discount on a registered brand doesn’t exist
50% discount on a $600 PSP 3 doesn’t exist
80% discount on ‘real’ Nikes doesn’t exist
Etc... You can make your own, it works
Doing so, you’ll avoid 90% of scammers.
To avoid the remaining 10% it's tough and it's the cost of doing business. I'm importing since 10 years and I get ripped off once in a while. Some of rules of thumb I follow:
- It's not because I received 2 samples in timely manner that I'm safe to send $20,000 T/T
- It's not because the 2 samples are great and as described that the 2,000 units I just ordered will be the same
- If I'm ready to T/T $20,000 to Singapore, I can spent $2000 more to fly there and check my shipment (or send someone to do so
)
- Never be too passionate do my homework first.
- etc..
Hopping this will help new comers to importing. When you do your homework correctly:
- Money safety
- Shipping
- Import taxes
- Customs
- Transportation to your place
- Wharehousing (I've a personal story about that one)
- Distribution
- Taxes (again)
- ...
You make money and better yet it's fun to do!
