Shocking!!!
It is shocking to see how many of you guys have been ripped off by people overseas.
I really dont understand why you guys dont do the required due dilligence in the first place and if you cant do the required checks then why do you wire over money to people you have never met or traded with before.
Either alot of the guys getting ripped of are first timers who think they have a bargain of a life time or people are just playing plain stupid.
A few tips...
(1) DONT SEND ANY MONEY VIA WESTERN UNION ETC ETC ETC
(2) DONT SEND ANY MONEY VIA BANK TRANSFER
(3) DONT TAKE EVERYTHING YOU READ IN AN EMAIL AS IF IT WERE GOSPEL
(4) DONT BE SUCKED INTO A DEAL THATS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE BECUASE IT IS EXACTLY THAT...TO GOOD TO BE TRUE.
(5) DO ASK YOUR WANNABE SUPPLIER TO PROVIDE A BANK REFERENCE, ONE THAT YOU CAN CHECK DIRECTLY WITH THE BANK
(6) USE THE LLOYDS LIST
(7) USE THE CHINESE EMBASSY IN LONDON FOR TRADE ADVICE OR THOSE WHOM YOU BELIVE TO BE FRAUDSTERS...THEY MAY ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THEM
(8) WHY NOT JUST JUMP ON A PLANE AND GO BUY THE GOODS YOURSELF, IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SETUP AN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND BECOME AN IMPORTER AND YOU DONT HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET ON A PLANE AND REALLY DO SOME SOURCING THEN DONT WASTE POCKET MONEY TRYING TO BUILD AN EMPIRE...IT JUST AINT GONA WORK AND SOONER OR LATER YOU WILL BE SCAMMED AND THEN YOUVE NOT EVEN GOT WHAT YOU STARTED WITH.
IF YOU ARE SCARED BECAUSE YOU CANT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OR KNOW WHERE TO GO THEN TAKE ME WITH YOU!
(9) FORGET ABOUT ANYONE IN CHINA WHO IS OFFEREING A BRANDED PRODUCT, CHEAP OR NOT, ANYTIHNG OUT OF MAINLAND CHINA WITH A BRAND ON IS GOING TO BE FAKE. PERIOD
(10) USE A UK BASED COMPANY LIKE MYSELF OR 100's OF OTHERS WHO CAN ACTUALLY SOURCE AND IMPORT PRODUCTS BECAUSE THAT IS OUR LINE OF WORK.
(11) BLAG IT...Tell your supplier you are coming to China in a couple of weeks and want to meet them, inspect their factory etc, ask for detailed address and the address in chinese so that you can give it to your driver. Or tell them you have a colleague in Hong Kong that will travel over to china and meet with the supplier and check the goods...call their bluff, most scammers will stop there, the pro's will play along for a while, and the real ones will invite you and send a car to pick you up and book you into a hotel for your stay! See what kinds of answers you get and if you get stuck email me and if nothing else as a gesture of goodwill I will get my guys in HK or China to call them and speak to them in their language and find out if they are real or not.
It is quite sad to see how many people have been ripped off and they are still falling like there is no tommorow, the chinese must really be loving the brits at the moment!

Three key things to remember before even talking to a supplier:
1) Use a reputable B2B site such as global sources or Alibaba. Personally all the other b2b sites are just mickey mouse!
2) Don't think you can buy household name Plasmas, mobile phones, ipods, consoles for less than 10% or possibly 20% off retail prices.
3) Don't think you can buy household name products from China

I would be very very cautious of B2B sites, that is where the vast majority of these scammers are and it is also where the vast majority of the guys getting scammed are looking!
From years of experiance I know that there are VERY FEW actual manufacturers on any of these B2B sites, the VAST majority claiming to be factories are actually small time traders and agents, they hold no stock, make nothing, and pray that people from all over the world will make them into big traders, alternativley they just take your money and run.
Worth nothing that in Hong Kong it is possible to get products drastically cheaper (even below 10%, 20%) the biggest discounts ive seen have to be 50% on electronics but this includes a number of factors such as strong GBP, weak HKD and lots of stock in HK, other times on average 20% - 30% cheaper is about right, but then again you need to factor in shipping, duties, vat etc.
