Hi all, I was recently scammed by someone on this forum who has now been banned, I wont go into details.

Basically he was selling iphones, and said that he would dropship.

So i put one on ebay and it sold so I sent the supplier the money by Bank Transfer.

He messaged me saying payment has been received and will be posted the next day. The next day when i asked if it had been dispatched yet he said it hadnt been but will be on monday.

I then sent another message on tuesday asking if it had been dispatched and he said it hadnt due to a supplier problem and he would issue a refund once he received the refund from his supplier

It has now been almost a month and before he was banned he was not responding to any of my messages.

Is there a way for me to get my money back?

Any advice wouild be helpful, he sent me his address for 'security purposes' but I cant check to see if it is genuinely his address and obviously I have his bank details

Thanks
Sam

If he's UK locate the local police station to the address and register a complaint. Also if his name is correct and possibly the address check with the local electoral office for that area. Also if you have confirmed those details as all being correct, consider small claims court. Nothing better for catching someone out.

Contact Anthony. He has the (hopefully) correct address and details. While he does not guarantee anything, he can be quite helpful in situations such as this.

I took you a whole month to realize that you have been scammed? Sorry to hear that man but I think you should post his name & user ID for everyone to know who he is...

Name and shame so we can flog them in public.

On another note, why do people get involved in these iphones. They cause nothing but misery!

If I had a pound for everyone that asked "do you know where to get cheap iphones".

The answer is you can't..

I could not agree more Dean, thought I was the only one.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand this obsession with iPhones? Seems like a lot of hassle for low margin...

Sam, if you are describing 'mobile-world', this user was sending unsolicited offers to quite a few of our members and we have already been contacted by another party who has suffered the same fate as you. We were actually only passed the message this morning by an experienced member here who knew the right thing was to pass it on to me and not respond. We acted as swiftly as we got the evidence, but clearly you and perhaps others had already proceeded with a transaction.

As to assisting you, I am afraid that regretfully you were dealing with a regular member (not a community advertiser), we therefore have no information at all to give you. There are no security protocols in place to protect members from other members, only members from our "community verified advertisers". Our terms state the dangers of dealing with such members, you shouldn't deal with anybody that isn't a "Community Advertiser" here, least of all somebody who sends you an unsolicited offer. I appreciate that doesn't help you, but from our point of view, it is important that you understand our reasons for not being able to assist.

I would suggest that you report this to the Police and if any other members come to light as suffering the same fate, you collectively try to take the chap who scammed you to the small claims court. You are also welcome to get a detective to request any and all information we have on the member, if this would help.

The bottom line is that this is a harsh lesson and one that you will hopefully learn from and in future not get sucked into.
