This is really a good article, I am Chinese Business Man in the filed of electronics items for many years. I want to say my opnions:
1) Most of Chinese Companies can also make quality product if you can take some higher cost, because Chinese companies have the money to buy advanced machines now;
2) Some cusotmer can also provide R&D service, like our company, are doing many developing project for USA customer;
3) Good compnies should have some year's history, should be carefully for the company which often change the name and can't find the sveral year's ad. record through Google; good company should be stable dveloping and not change new name often;
4) To pay through company account is more better than through personal account, but Paypal can't protect the Chinese suppliers well. Some can scammer Chinese' supplier's good through paypal either.
5) Profieesional feedback + Bank account can verify most suppliers;
Above is my suggestion.
Jack

This was a really interesting read...I especially liked your own personal tales of what you did and how it turned out; inspiring for those who seek to do much the same thing.
I've previously imported [specialist] clothing items from China...and done well; just don't know how to gear up for mass distribution, in that sector. It takes a lot of hard work to find the right product...but even when you do, the REAL hard work has only just started!
I'd always read more of your experiences....you write in a very pleasing way.
Cheers, take care,
Mike

Getting the products can be the easy part. Getting them in to retail is a another story.
There is only so much you can sell direct and we always look to get products into retail.
I have been working on a very simple RRP £4.99 product for 3 months! Everything from the blister design, backing card and copy writing takes longer than actually having the product manufactured!!!

It's been interesting reading the comments in these posts. I've been trying for a while to find a suitable product to sell on ebay and have looked at quite a few Chinese companies through a number of trading websites (DHGate for example). So far I haven't taken the plunge, being wary of scammers, but this posting and several others I've read on different forums are giving me a clearer picture of what I need to do. However, one thing I have noticed is that the spelling and grammar of some of the posts is not very good, either because the poster's spelling and grammar is poor anyway, or because they've become lazy since the introduction of mobile phone text messaging. You can still understand the message, but imagine if you were Chinese with only a rudimentary understanding of English grammar and a limited English vocabulary. Such a person would have a great problem understanding the context of a message, where misspelt words can mean something completely different from what was intended. It might explain some of the problems that are encountered. As one poster on another forum said "Keep each sentence short and keep it simple.", and run a spellchecker over it. P.S. I'm not claiming that my grammar is perfect, and as I get older I'm having to check words that I was once certain were correctly spelt.
