When I saw all those threads and reviews about wholesaling it really confused me. Some said never to buy lists of wholesalers, some said never to use wholesale listing sites, some said never to deal with the chinese and some said wholesaling is a waste of time.

It would have been much easier at the time if someone had explained everything to me, but if they had, I probably wouldn't have learned as much as I have from searching myself.

I will tell you though that there is a huge markup for practically everything on ebay. Most of the stuff is bought from wholesalers across the world, whether it be Electricals, T-Shirts, Belts, Textiles...etc

In my opinion, there is no point in buying wholesale lists since there is as much a chance finding a good supplier through google.

Usually, the best wholesale sites aren't the first ones that come up on google, sometimes the best can be on the 4th, 5th or 6th pages.

Another key factor in finding a good supplier is the ability to make a relevant search on google, even substituting "supplier" to "distributor" can make a big difference.

Once you've found a supplier, you'll need to make sure they aren't scamsters. I will always cross-reference their site with this one. If the supplier comes up on the list, don't use them.
However, even if the supplier's site doesn't come up, I will still phone them to verify their prices and all the particulars (VAT/Import Charges/Shipping...etc).
Also, I will search the company on google. Sometimes there are reviews on them and I always read these.

Look around, there may be cheaper suppliers and it may not be wise to take the first offer that comes to you.

Good Luck.

This is a very good tip. Depending on what area you are looking at you can find gems tucked away in the later pages of Google.

I disagree with the idea that a good supplier will have a website. My two biggest suppliers don't have any form of internet trading at all, and they are the two biggest players in their market.

When it comes to wholesale lists, most are a waste of time as they are old and outdated. BUT, some can be useful. People need to look at it this way. When you pay for a list you are paying for the time it has taken someone to collect the information. Sure, you could do it yourself but it COULD take you along time if you don't know how to search for the content.

It's like any service in life. You pay a web designer to build. You could do this yourself but you would have to carry out huge amounts of research and take a course or two before you get to the web designers level.

In my opinion the best way to find a wholesaler is to look through the yellow pages and then get in your car and physically find them on the various trading estates through the country.

Great post. Some really good points made here. Your point about making sure that the supplier is actually "usable" before doing anything else is a very important one.

Remind me to place this thread in the Popular Discussions section on the right for next month if I don't remember. :niceone:

Well Done!
