Can't quite agree with 10-15% being a good markup though
I would say that a markup of £25 on an item that takes two minutes to box up is well worthwhile going for. In terms of percentage, 10-15%'s not bad, but I hate the idea of paying out selling something for £100 and only feeling that £15 of it's "mine" (rather than going on costs of stock, shipping, payment fees etc.).

It really is all about thinking outside the box. I have one product that I call my housing plus product. It doesn't have anything to do with housing or addition but it pays my rent and my bills and a little bit more. It's an item that is in reasonably high demand though not *that* high, I buy from one of the manufacturer's agents for £3 delivered (INCLUDING VAT and duty) and sell through a purpose built website, using a little SEO and advertising to drive customers to the site. Selling quite happily at £14.99 after all my costs I turn a £3 initial outlay into £13 (£10 gross profit).

I'm not going to say much more than that, but I will say that as a long term business plan unless you've got massive buying power, massive amounts of storage space, massive finance and a massive web design and advertising budget it's HARD to compete with the likes of Amazon, Play, eBuyer et. al. (note I say hard, not impossible).

Some good info there . How many do you sell a day of said item ?

Thank you for writing this guide. To be honest I have been looking for those very products and I am now realizing that it is not as easy as I thought.
I have started out selling things I have around the house on ebay and I loved it. I thought I was being smart by researching what was the most popular searches on ebay and trying to find those products to sell. I always heard in the back of my mind that if it were that easy then everyone would be doing it. I came across this site yesterday and I am glad I did.
I am not to sure on what my new path will be - product wise - and I am still trying to find where to get things but I am willing to work for it!
I live in Canada and I am having a hard time finding suppliers. Am I limited to what I can get because I am in Canada or am I not looking in the right places? I have searched the web, looked in newspapers, used yellowpages, etc. Any advise?
Again great article and I am glad I found this site!

You can find some sources by joining the membership site I promote. Over 400 of the forum members have. You will find a number of Canadian wholesalers and manufacturers, as well as a lot of US companies who will ship to Canada.

Just click the top link below and you can find out more.

just want to say thankyou willhof

That has given me some good knowledge which i will remember for a long time. I am also new to the wholesale game in 21 and at university, but bussiness has always playing around in my mind since i was a kid selling sweets at new years eve parties for 30p a cup at the age of 12.

I think this forum is great and FULL of knowledge. I have learnt what type of products to go for (non saturated products which some organisations sell for a loss just to get the customers rolling in) but products with much less competition as there are always buyers out there looking for something.

Iv just got to now think what type of product to go for but only after i get as much knowledge i can from this website as i think preperation really does pay.

The only thing i find a bit difficult is how to find a wholesaler of a product and how to approach them etc as this is somthing i havent really done before. I know the answers out there im sure ill find it!!

Anways thanks for the help willhof really appreciated as guys like you really do help the new guys like me!

My advice:

ONLY DEAL BY ESCROW.COM.

YOU CAN BE SCAMMED BY ALL OTHER MODES OF PAYMENT.
