I'm afraid it's not that simple.

Only a small percentage of suppliers will accept Escrow - not because they're scammers, but because it's impracticle for them. It takes a while to withdraw any monies - and some suppliers may actually need the money to place orders with manufacturers.

Say you want to make an order of £50,000 worth of furniture. Most suppliers won't have that kind of money in hand - and therefore they will need to use the money of the buyer.

Just my Two Cents

Just an on the topic comment, i do agree with willhof that the electronics business is not glamorous nor great, however it is undeniable that if you do find a good supply you are guaranteed some sort of income. Looking at percentages it is true that in some cases you are looking at 5% and thats not great at all, but 5% on a 300 dollar item is still $15 with a healthy market driving demand still can get you places.

My assumptions are of course based on worst case scenarios and of course assuming dropshipping with no upfront capital. It is a slow way to start but definitely workable, with the right products and marketing the results start showing very quickly because of the demand for these items.

Wish I'd read this before I was scammed by alibabanow. They also trade under the company name of albbn or www.alibabanow.com They promise branded electricals but just take your money. I placed my order for tomtom 920's. I received a piece of junk Chinese sat nav instead. I didn't understand at first but it became apparant that they sent it so they would have my signature for a parcel. They now claim that I had my order because I signed for it. Crafty con men. Beware Chinese branded goods & trust the word of Willhof.

I'm sorry to hear about that .

It's a good lesson for everyone though - only ever make Escrow payments through Escrow.com and the Escrow service offered by Moneybookers.

Greetings Willhof,

Considering I live in Venezuela, where to put you the most common examples the following branded products are sold this way: Nintendo Wii (700USD), PS3 (1000USD), Nokia N95 8GB (900-1000USD), and the same rule applies to every single branded product that comes from abroad. Would you recommend me to invest in this field considering i am only twenty years old and my capital is very limited also is my time because of college.

Branded products seem attractive to me because I only have to worry about bringing them from abroad at competitive prices and after that they sell very fast through Venezuelan Ebay which is called MercadoLibre where I use to sell every kind of things and it doesn't takes too much of my time.

I would really appreciate your thoughts and opinions in this matter.

Sincerely,

Ricardo Salinas

I have to say that was a great article. And no, i'm not in the business of selling ipods and nintendos. Me and my husband actually own a computer company. I like to feel that we have found our niche. But thanx for the thoughtfulness I glady appreciate it.

If prices are really that high; It may well be worth going against what I say and have a go at importing some Branded Goods. You could probably Import a Wii for around 500USD (Including Shipping) which would leave you with some room to make a decent profit.

The same could be said for a PS3; You could probably import one for 850-900USD.

It's not down to me to tell you what to sell and how to run your business - but all I would say is that you should be careful when Importing Branded Goods. There are more Scammers 'Selling' Branded Goods than there 'Selling' any other products. Remember my Golden Rule: You Cannot Buy Branded Goods From China.

Good Luck .
