Wink Whatever you do...in China

I know there're lots of guys planing a trade show visit to China. Now, you get almost everything ready, here are 10 definite "don'ts" for first time visitors to China:

1. Don't carry too much cash or expensive watches, jewellery and camera, which may be targeted for thieves. Also, over USD6000, you must declare to Chinese customs.
2. Don't drink any tap water in China unless you want to experiment with your digestive system.
3. Don't wander alone and accept an invitation to go with a stranger or some young looking female students.
4. Don't use, carry or get involved with drugs in China, except some common medicines for personal use.
5. Don't go to ATM at night. There have been reports of various ATM scams including the use of fake ATMs that take the user's card. It is recommended you use ATMs when accompanied and during daylight hours to reduce risks.
6. Don't bargain the price with the driver. It is recommended you carry small bills, like RMB 10, 20 and 50, and hail taxis from official queues to reduce your risk of getting into trouble. You may receive counterfeit money as change from hawkers, use cautions.
7. Don't go to Tibet, Xinjiang, Sichuan, etc. unsafe provinces, at present time.
8. Don't bring too much clothes, as you can buy a lot of cheap, good quality clothes from China. In Southern China, it's still summer time in Oct.
9. Don't ask extra service when going massage, which means sex service. If you really want to try, remember to practice safe sex.
10. Don't come to China without travel insurance.

I wish you all have a safe and pleasant trip to China.

I think I wrote this scam story in my previous post, but I can't find it now.

Foreigners have been targets of a number of scams when travelling in China. An increasing number of tourists are being approached and invited for a drink at a teahouse, cafe or bar nearby to "practice English". Afterwards the tourist is presented with a vastly inflated bill and is not permitted to leave until they pay the bill by credit card. In some cases, accompanying threats of violence and credit card skimming or duplication have also been reported.

Be extremly cautious on #3.
