Great article Steve!

A tip for everyone. If you sell at Car Boot sales, you need to remember that people come htere looking for bargains (dirt-cheap second-hand goods etc.) and won't usually carry much money. Markets on the other hand are far better for selling new goods and people will carry a lot more money!

I used to take as much per hour at car boots as markets, if not more, but my products were excellent vfm and impulse buy material. Hard to come up with rules, plenty of car boot punters walk around with £5 or less, others can have hundreds of pounds on them. Most traders I know sell on both equally well.

I think this thread is great and is full of info, great job m8.
One thing I'm confused of tho is the public liability insurance. I've had a quote of 50 quid per year but can I use any company for the insurance or has it got to be through the Market traders website?

You can obtain the PLI from anyone, but the NMTF is so well known it's worth the little extra, they issue you a laminated membership card which if you produce it you are allowed onto markets etc, where any other company you will need to carry your actual insurance docs around with you, and then they will need to be checked to make sure you are correctly covered since the other companies are not as well known.

Thanks for the feedback

Not quite sure about using a company to get your insurance... the only reason i recommend the NMTF (national market traders federation) is because they offer alot of advice & support, newletters e.t.c... all included in the insurance price.

Up-date: Lighthouse beat me to it ^^^ lol :niceone:

I would recommend March onwards, let the xmas season & january sales settle down - plenty of time for getting things pre-planned :niceone:

Great post Steve.
This is something I have been looking into as my outlook is to look at every opportunity.
The internet offers a wide selection of opportunities for trading but also getting out there and selling the good old fashioned way is something im very interested in.
Many fingers in many pies is my philosophy.
I look at having many avenues and projects on the go bringing in a fair amount of profit each rather than putting all my eggs in one basket.
