You need to do both. The trick is to drive Ebay's traffic to your own site. Mike's (MustHaveMobiles) guide should be read and re-read until it sinks in and becomes second nature when listing auctions.

Good comments. I am looking to get into drop shipping to sell on Ebay as well as setting up a dedicated online store. I have some limited experience of selling on Ebay, for one I have been selling/advertising my our cottage in North Wales for rent. Many people are breaking Ebay rules by adding a website link, telephone number etc which Ebay considers to be ways of circumventing paying Ebay fees. You might get away with it for a while, it is only a matter of time before your auctions are taken down. I had a couple of my auctions pulled because one was offering choice which you are not allowed to do and another was considered to be circumventing fees.
If you want to create a link to your website, you can legitimately do so using your About Me page. One other method which I have not used, but seems popular by businesses is to use the classified ads. You will pay to advertise a product for a month or more but you can give all of your contact information and website links etc. Traditional businesses often work on high profit margins ie. purchase price to selling price but the high marketing costs have to be factored in which knocks down the overall profit margin. Then with a traditional business there are all the overheads that have to be paid for. From a business point of view, reduced profits resulting from Ebay fees can still make selling on Ebay a profitable exercise if the margins are good in the first place.
I look forward to learning from experienced drop shippers using this forum.

I agree with eBay fees - sold PS3 £300, had to pay them £30!!! plus my listing fee!!! worked out - it would of been wiser to sell it to a friend.

If your not allowed to post the "link" in your listings - simply send your customers a note:

"congratulations" - thank you for purchasing our product, you can find more items like these at www.****" <<< Okay - eBay doesn't allow the right of selling outside of eBay - but your not selling, your giving your customer free information...

They don't allow you to advertise links within a listing as it may be visable to many people watching your "listing" - if you use the method above - your only giving the "buyer" the rights to see this information, just be sure to include in your listing "also i will include FREE access to my website" - that way you cover your ground, otherwise you could be accused of "spam mails".
