So I guess its just hit and miss then. Am I right in thinkinG that Import tax would be the same rate as VAT?

I ordered a phone from a member on here in hong kong and when it arrived it was marked as £28 value although it cost £59.

So it just depends how much they put on the form.

I'm guessing if it is dropshipped to the customer direct from HK then it would be the address on the label that would be asked to pay the import charges?

hmmm. The plan was to buy 20 Spy pens for £299 and sell them at £20 each both on the car boots ad maybe try a few on line. If I have to pay an aditional £40-50 import tax then its probably not going to be worth the effort. Thanks for the input guys.

Correct, But its very rare that a single item will get charged customs, As said before if the custom declaration is cheap enough it will fly threw. Not only that most asian countrys know our situation and declare a lot lower than main value.

So all in all very rare for import charges on single items.

So what happens in the event of a claim (item damaged etc) if the value has been lowered on the package?

That makes sence. If I was to buy 20 though, im guessing that it would look like a box with numourus items in it and therefore be hit with an extra bill.

Its only lowered to get threw customs, When it comes to returning because its damaged you still would get back what you paid as this is the agreement between you and the supplier.

The lowered price has nothing to do with you, the customer, or the supplier.
