I got shot down when I mentioned it before by a bedroom seller who threatened it was 'anti-competitive' lol.

I agree in principle with the VAT registration for sellers, but the only downside with that is the same problem that we are having - it's been 4 months from applying for VAT registration and we still don't have approval. The backlogs at HMRC are rediculous.

Maybe VAT registration for new advertisers, but what about US, Chinese etc. advertisers? They may have to jump through different hoops.

The VAT has been like that now for 18 months plus. It is not so much the backlog, they do so many more additional checks instead of handing certificates out like sweets. This is due to the vast amount of carousel fraud which cost them millions! You can thank me and the mobile phone industry for that

If they are VAT registeered, it would mean that the service/goods they offer are not just "this week's get rich quick idea". The agro associated with being VAT registered is not worth it for the get-rich-quick boys and girls.

Exactly.

And in all honesty, you only have to average a grand a quarter a week to compulsory register anyway.

And for start up companies wishing to advertise their business to start off? If they are already making such money, for example they have started a business, registered it and are meeting the requirements - there is much less chance of wanting to advertise.

I spoke to vital a couple of times and he seemed ok but then he vanished a few weeks back. I never traded with the guy just a few chats on msn and allways seemed straight enough but as it has been said bedroom traders do no one any good.

I dont think vat reg would work but there should be something even if it is simple like they must show a minumum trading cash in the bank (via a statment) to anthony before they are allowed to Advertise for the first time if they are a new business (as alot are dealing in brockerd stock) so if they get ripped off it is less unlikly the end user will.

Also perhaps there should be some "standard T&C's " that a seller must display on their websites before being allowed to advertise it on the forums for dropshipping products ?

The only problem you will realy hit is that their are alot of genuine sellers that offer fantastic deals and carry stock and (like me) if they felt the advertising application was to intrusive they would not advertise so it would be bad for the forum.

From a buyers perspective, I think there should be stricter rules for becoming an advertiser on here. I am trying to get a measly £55 back from an advertiser from here as a refund and apparently, he 'cant't afford it'.

There are some very good advertisers on here with good reputations and decent businesses - the 'one trick pony' advertisers ruin the good advertisers reputations.
