Take your time before getting in to it, i've been planning for about a month now and i'm not ready to sell yet. i want to make sure I'm going to start strong and not struggle with a couple of items in the wrong places. Think about where you visit on the net and then see if you can advertise there.

I guess I should have revised the topic to 'is drop shipping profitable on ebay'

I know that the prices will be higher if you had your own retail website. But I would assume just to stay away from eBay if you're into dropshipping.

Thanks for the replies though. I always learn something on this site!

you can sell on ebay but a saturated market and excessive fees make it difficult to make decent money, although ebay UK is not the only ebay to use, and theres nothing wrong with making a small loss on some items if it brings customers to your own website to spend more money where you dont have the fees.

I think most of my clients make profit on ebay

I do!

Lot more competition - so again comes down to marketing, listing layout and service offered. I got a feedback the other day saying I was one of the best on eBay for service.

Only sold the bloke a pen and gave him a guide through it - however if a potential buyer reads that I know they will be willing to pay a few quid more.

The ones that dont have ideas are the ones that fail at it.
yup exactly! i used dropshipping on branded phones and didnt use ebay and i was making easy money of it! i charged the end user the postage cost that the dropship would charge me (and added an extra £1 for greed), added £10-15 on each phone (nokia, samsung, etc) and specialised in unlocked phones. Like Rob said the ones that dont have ideas, fail. ebay is a bit of a sham in my view because people listing phones on it get them from other places in europe and advertise as the same if you bought in the UK which it isnt!

There is being to cheap with dropshipping though if you sell to the customer and they are not happy and return it you are atleast liable for the first lot of postage as even if your not selling on ebay most shops offer free postage as customers may buy more than 1 item meaning you would lose out so alot of shops that sell dropshipped goods include there p&p so you have to figure this into your prices how many would you have to sell to make the return back also there are charge cakcs ect and you are liable not you dropshipper.
adoos is ok to advertise on and vivastreet also word of mouth goes along way i have lots of return customers and some with addresses right by some other customers so i usually know when i have been recommended well when i recoginise a street or area i go look through my records lol

i havent had any problems with items being sent back to me. If you advertise correctly there should never be any problems. The phones i got were brand new factory sealed and unlocked, which always are premium when it comes to selling. so it worked out very nicely when i drop shipped them.

Very similar to you lori5000 i advertise elsewhere which are free instead of ebay too and its amazing how many sales i got like that. im looking into getting a website designed in just mobile phones-doing the same method of dropship. word of mouth too is brilliant! worked well at my dads workplace! i find ebay can be at times a waste of time with the amount of non-payers, time-wasters, foreigners, scammers, list goes on!!

i've never had anything sent back lol i guess you could though i do have physicle stock to. word of mouth has been my best i find that 1 week i'll sell something in say neath wales and have an influx of order from that particular area for a while it make you feel proud. I do think ebay helps sometimes as if your not dropshipping you can slip your web site url in and get some sales from recomendations .
