You all don't have the sense of dropshipping I have, but Lori has hit at the heart of historical dropshipping. It started as manufacturers and wholesalers shipping larger or slower moving items that most retailers would sell occasionally, but could not justify the space or the funds to keep on hand.
So, it's always been wholesalers who dropship. It was (and still is for many) a courtesy to their established retailers. Some soon found they could also dropship for other, non-stocking, sellers. So dropshipping as you all know it in relation to the Internet is a variation of an old practice.
As for complaining about a dropship seller getting the same price as an Internet seller who may hold stock, I don't see where there is a lot to complain about. It's the real brick and mortar stores who should be complaining about both.
And get your terms right - the dropshipper is the wholesaler who dropships, not the person doing the seller.
