As you may or not know we are planning to launch a bodybuilding supplements dropshipping business in the near future, and we want to get everything as 'right' as possible from the outset.

What qualities would a dropshipping company have to have to make them worth using?

Fast shipping/delivery?
Good margins?
Frequent updates & excellent customer service?
Varied payment methods?
Etc...

Any input would be greatly appreciated guys!

Many thanks

  • Make sure you have enough stock
  • Make sure you display the amount of stock left for each product
  • Fast shipping - Royal Mail First Class / Second Class / Recorded / Courier
  • PayPal - no others are really required as most will be selling on eBay
  • Provide tracking numbers (if recorded / courier is used) on all invoices
  • UK Stock

That's about it really.

Is Paypal an absolute necessity?

I would say yes. Many would be selling on eBay which means PayPal is required. Although you can offer bank transfer which some might use.

Your entering into a very fragile business at the moment, Especially bad press on here which is a shame.

items in PHYSICAL stock is whats going to make people come back around to the idea of dropshipping again.

If possible offer to show people you have items in stock with a name next to a product or something.

Good luck anyway.

Everyone has overlooked the number one tenet of dropshipping.

You must ship "blind", with no link back to you. You must fully understand that the people you are shipping to are not your customers and you have no right to solicit business from them - even 20 years from now. Without this basic trust you cannot be a dropshipper.

Like it or not, you will run out of stock. Every business in the world does occasionally. And I know of very few, if any, online sellers whose "stock on hand" amount shown on their websites is accurate.

Also to be considered is having sales materials for your sellers, zipped image packs, description files, etc. Possibly even RSS feeds.

The last is a "do as I say, not do as I do" sort of thing, but I'm getting there.

I like the indirect there Pete

I would have thought dropshipping blind should be a given really, I would expect it so wouldn't have suggested it, but you are right there are some companies who have slipped up and got caught.

Yeah Pete - have to agree with you about shipping blind although I have to admit, I was taking that as read too.

Suppose its too easy to take it for granted that everyone is of a like mind

For me, good after service is very important. If any of your business buyers have queries from their customers they need your help and advice on, for instance, that is crucial. A lot of companies just take the money, send the goods and then don't want to know again until your next order.
