I am looking to use a dropshipper from China that has been mentioned on the forum.

Obviously, there is a risk of your parcel being intercepted by customs when it reaches Blighty. How many items have you had intercepted? Is it a rare occurence? Would I be the unluckiest man on earth to have every parcel intercepted.

If I mention in my terms and conditions that certain items are shipped direct from the supplier and may inccur import duty would I be let off the hook

Thanks for all the help so far

Ive used Chinavasion.com and have a good sucess with them. You can get away with import tax with them, however, if you order quantity bulk then you will have to email them for a way around it (they have a FAQ with how to bypass it).

Which is illegal. If the value of your order exceeds £18 then your order is liable for VAT at the very minimum.

I've made around 80 orders with Pete, mostly to the UK but probably 15-20 to foreign countries, and I had one siezed in Belgium but that is the only problem I had.

I thought the allowance was raised to something like £103?

They seem to raise it around Christmas, but that's it.

Personally, I'd not mention anything about it and if by some slim chance someone would be charged simply be astonished and refund the amount.

Think of one of those big wheels of fortune at a carnival, with about 1,000 pegs on it, with one space saying "you pay" and the others saying "free ride" and start selling.

I have mentioned here a number of times that if a dropshipped order from me had to be paid on I would pay it. No one has taken me up on it yet. This is for the UK, I will not say that for orders to Germany, where it seems that ordering a paper clip from outside the country will bring a fee and a fine for smuggling or something. I believe in Germany you have to pay a fine for daring to order from outside the country.

To borrow a phrase from Nike - Just do it!

Now, to be clear, this does not apply to larger orders. If you are not VAT registered and order a sizable order you may very well be called upon to fill out a form or two. But for single or a couple of pieces dropshipped, it's just not a big thing.

I warn everyone who places an order for delivery to Germany they will pay VAT and also be fined for trying to avoid VAT, even though all they did was place an order. Maybe you are supposed to prepay the VAT when you place the order?
