I've been buying on Aliexpress through Alibaba. A great system you buy the goods then the money is placed in escrow until you recieve the goods. If your happy with them you confirm delivery and the seller gets paid.

After a few good weeks buying and selling and with a load of orders paid for Alibaba freeze my account, and say it is due to counterfeit card transaction. I had no idea what this was about so immediately contacted my bank, who say there is no problem as far as they are concerned.

I cant' get through on the Alibaba tel no, but have emailed and had a reply, which gave no reason or detail as to why the account had been frozen. They just said they wanted a copy of the front of my bank card, passport, and bank statement, sending to them!

Besides, the inconvenience of having the account frozen (as I have orders & customer's waiting) I am a bit suspicious about sending these personal details to China.

Does anybody have any advice please?

I have no experience with this system, but it sounds like your account has been hacked.

This sounds very dodgy to me, I would not hand my details over like that.

Is it possible to see the transactions on your account? There maybe something on there you have not done yourself.

Try posting on the forum on Alibaba?

I hope you find out whats going on, be sure to keep us posted.

Hi, with the account being frozen we can view our orders, frozen, pending delivery, completed but cant access any other pages, forums, speak to sellers etc. I complained through an email and am waiting for their responce.

The only orders on there, are what we have paid for? Really puzzled.
You go through Visa Verification before payment so Alibaba has signed up to that but apparently thats not good enough!

Do not send your details! especially to china.
it is a bit odd though that your account was just frozen.

Yeah, not going to send any details. I will have to cut my losses and inform my customers of the cancellations . Looked to be a great and safe way to work with China BUT you may be frozen at any time leaving you high and dry with a ton of unhappy customers. You can get unfrozen but would you really send a copy of your passport, bank statements and even a scan of your credit card to China?

Well finaly got my Alibaba account unfrozen. Posted this problem on a identity forum and got some replies from an Alibaba expert saying this was normal practice. So I bit the bullit and provided my details, they reactivated the account this weekend.

So I had many orders with this one company some got cancelled and some where supposedly still live. I had tracking numbers but these did not exist on the EMS site so I thought the company had understandably not sent the goods. So I asked for a refund. Due to the account being frozen I couldn't contact them direct only through the Alibaba site.

Now with the account unfrozen I was able to chat to them and hopefully sort this mess out or so I thought.

the following is the conversations I had with the company bearing in mind I have paid and the money is held in escrow by Alibaba until I confirn delivery.

Me: They froze our account as they were doing random checks & because it was frozen we could not speak with you but now they admitted they made a mistake when we gave them copies of all of our personal identification. The orders that had tracking numbers that didn't exist, they said ask you for a refund. Because they are happy that we are not fraudsters, they have reactivated our account. (2009-11-09 03:25:21)

Me: If you do not want to give us a refund, we would accept the orders being sent to our address (not the original drop shipping addresses we gave you because we have given our customers their money back). We have been messed about by Alibaba but as I stated above, they were happy to reactivate the account (2009-11-09 03:27:12)

Me: We already confirmed shipment of orders from other sellers. I'm not sure what you mean about account ID. Alibaba said we had to prove we were not using a fraudulent card by sending them copies of card, bank statement , which we did. They were happy with these so they reactivated the account.
