Default SCT - eBay about me page

Anthony,

I have posted in here because we were moving rapidly away from the threads original theme posted by vengavenga.

Your about me page, what about a having featured DVD Images on it. Check out DVD's For Sale

The four images could be set as a generic image that you could rotate over a certain time frame so the images always remain 'in fashion' and these images could be set to deep link to individual pages on your site. ie. comedy section, horror section etc etc.

Thus you would have the added benefit of greater linking and adding an edge to your about me page, you can obviously have the feedback and items for sale on there still but I just did a quick page to demonstrate my point.

Also the text can be adjusted to include Anchor Text for SE purposes (see DVD Information link).

Let me have your thoughts and anybody else for that matter.

Mike

Firstly Mike, thank you ever so much for helping me on this one.... it is very kind of you

I do like your page design but how do I do the images like you suggested (ie Roll over and adapt by showing the most popular ones?)

Is that done in ebay? Or is there some coding script that you know of to do it...?

I did feel that my current about me page was a little "too wordy" and not hugely colourful or customer friendly, reading wise...

Haven't got my way around the anchor text... would I use that with google? Would I need to set up ad words account? Also where is the DVD information link... (just woken up )

Again Mike Thank you really for this....

Look forward to your reply..

Anthony

Mike,

Looks very good, well interested in this post! learning more all the time. I will be using some of your tips when I move my ebay selling up a gear (or two) and add a 'about me' page.

If it's ok,can I give you a shout for tips and tricks on the about me page when I do mine??

Might also be good for a new section on the forum regarding tips and tricks for websites and about me pages, for us total novices when it comes to HTML. i.e scripts for doing certain tasks etc. (let me know what ya think)

Cheers
Dave

There are scripts that allow you to do roll overs but the majority tend to use javascript which I am unsure whether you can put into your ebay 'about me' page what I meant was that you could have a generic file name, say horror.jpeg, comedy.jpeg etc and then whenever you wish to change the image all you do is rename a newer DVD image (ie. the latest release) to horror.jpeg and then the image will change when people review the page and the link will still be to your horror category etc.

Anchor text is a way of formatting your links so that you do not display a link like this http://www.onlineauctiontrader.com/creditcards.htm you would display it as Credit Card Advice and this would be a particular keyword or phrase that you are targetting. Remember people do not always search for your website name they will search for things like DVD sales, buying a DVD etc and this is what you want to target in the SERP's. When the SE BOT visits and follows the anchor text link its helps to weight that page for that particular phrase. You do not need adwords as that is something totally different

The DVD Information link is formatted in blue towards the end of the page and takes you to your DVD rental page..

As for creating another forum category i am going to recopy these posts into my own forum as it is moving slightly away from this forums basis and I would also like to build my own forum up. I will continue to post the info here as I really enjoy this forum and it has some great members (hence me accepting a mod position). Please join my forum and we can discuss at more length (and on here ), I have to go out shortly and will not be back until 10pm so I will update my own forum then so feel free to join away.

Maybe I should team up with James, he provides the wholesale aspect and I provide advice

As for anyone asking advice from me, fire away thats the purpose of the forum.

Looks good, a couple of points to think about...

Anchor text links and reduce the table width, at the moment the table needs a scroll bar to be hit to see the full extent of it..its accepted to have to scroll down but left/right is a pain in the ass.

Try setting the table width to % rather than pixels..

Topic also now in my forum..which should push the bots to your site..keep an eye on it

Mike
