Default eBays very own scam!

On the 7th March eBay will give you an insertion fee of 5p if you list your item with FREE DELIVERY.

But...

By doing so you are allowing eBay to take a FVF on the whole price of your item, whereas normally they would only do it for item price and not delivery. So by upping your price to cover the delivery you are aactually allowing eBay to charge more fees on your new price.

Does everyone understand this?

Final Value Fee

What the post means is that by offering free postage on your item (to get the discounted listing fee) most sellers will up their price to cover this thus increasing the fees that Ebay can charge on the higher FVF.

I will not be taking advantage as there is no benefit tbh..

Let's see now, you up your price a bit and inlcude shipping.

This seems to, and I would dare say can be proven to, increase sales. (85% or so of "dropped carts" in online stores comes at the point where shipping is added.)

So, you up your price and sell more.

But you don't up your price and sell the same, or possibly less since others may include shipping, because you resent eBay making a bit more off of your SUCCESSFUL auction.

Sounds a bit to me like you are "cutting off your nose to spite your face". And you could always add a bit more to cover the fee. If including the shipping really does work, a couple of extra pennies should not matter.

Keep in mind this is from a non-eBay seller. But it just seems to me that giving eBay a bit more and selling more is better than selling less and paying them less.

Other than principle, what am I missing here? And even the principle is questionable when you are selling on eBay anyhow. You are playing by their rules and they offer a suggestion to help you sell more. So what if they make a bit more, as well?

I use ebay less and less now.............This offer certainly wont be bringing me back.

If ebay ever does begin to go backwards and lose custom, then it will be down to ebays own greed or lack of policing. The margins are getting smaller and the amount of fraud/fake goods on there is scary.

Its the fact that they say we will give you a listing for 5p if you cut your profits and give free shipping. They are the billionaires not us so why not just offer free listings for a day or 5p listing for whatever.

They take the biscuit sometimes and just p me right off.
