Ok so I was looking around ebay as you do when I stumbled across the DVD section, interested in what kinda prices DVDs went for I had a gander.

To my amazement they weren't any cheaper than other online DVD stores and infact many went for a few quid more.

Seeing this gave me an idea, why not just buy DVDs from online stores and sell them on ebay? I researched a few boxsets and after postage saw I could make 2 or 3 quid. Although this doesn't seem much i'm only looking at selling a few at first and see how it goes.

Something I found even more interesting was when looking at the items sold by a few DVD powersellers. From reading their feedback I noticed that some of them actually sold the item on ebay and then instead of sending the item themself, order from the online store with their buyer's details. Although this managed to get them a few negative feedbacks from people who were annoyed at what he was doing it seemed like a good idea.

Anyway i've bought a few DVDs to give it a go, anyone have any thoughts on it?

Thanks Jim

I think this would work £2-3 on DVDs is a good margin. I assume this is after eBay/ Paypal fees? What you could do is order items after they have sold get them sent to your address and on your eBay description make a note saying delivery in 3 - 5 working days. If your using retailers like Play.com delivery would be next day, usually. Just keep stock of those 'hot' titles you know will sell. I think this could work and have known people who did this with Play.com.

That is after ebay and paypal fees yes, although i'm still trying to work out how much it will cost to send a dvd boxset through the post, those figures were estimated with a £2.30 postal charge, which is the maximum I think it could be.

I would much rather get them sent straight from the supplier, but it makes me feel like i'm doing something bad. I know I wouldn't be quick to give someone positive feedback if I found out i'd just paid £2 more than I had to lol
People are doing it though, I guess i have nothing to lose really

there's nothing wrong sending them from the supplier as long they arrive let say in a week should be fine.
people sell items on ebay for 99p and they charge for the postage £9.99.
as long everything is clear on the advert then it's fine.
let me tell you something i bought stuff for £20 from retail and i sold them for £30 and they were going like hot cakes, tha't's 50% profit margin

don't assume everything on ebay is the cheapest
always go with an open mind,i bought once an expensive fridge the cheapest place i could found it was House of frasier,it's not a typical place you go for a bargain, i saved myself £200

It would not be good business to send directly from the retailer. You would have a very bad eBay account, lots of negatives, Paypal disputes etc. The fact you want to send directly from a large retailer (which all your buyers will know of) who puts there company name over every package they send will just end in trouble - theres no way it will work.

Point taken I think i'll give that a miss! Bought a few popular titles in anyway, only bad thing is i'm having to buy them in before selling them, don't want to risk them taking a while to arrive. I guess after i've ordered from a few places i'll have an idea on delivery times so can put some lists up before buying

I believe the ethic of the business is to be honest on the desription. honest on dispatch time
whether you get it from next door or argos as long the buyer is happy with the service

i get lot of items from retail and i sell them on ebay and i have not a single negative, yet i still make mine the cheapest on ebay.

one thing is i always have physical stock, you don't promise people the item and then start apologising you don't have it...etc

correct me if i'm wrong

I agree with what you're saying ragtime, i'd like to be packing and sending it myself so I know exactly what's going on.

I've actually found a few more titles which would give me a £6 or £7 profit margin and are selling well on ebay, only problem is they are being sold by power sellers, do you think it makes a huge difference that I only have a low feedback?

I'll post back on here when i've tried selling a few things, even if I have to dig it up
