Smile Name my eBay store! Please help!

Hi all,

I have been selling region free PS3 and Xbox 360 games for the past few months and am in the process of opening an eBay store. Early next year i'm hoping to follow this by opening a website specializing in games. Now, the problem is I can't decide what to call my store! And this is where I want everyone's help!

I want to pick a name that 'does exactly what it says on the tin' as it were, so the name will probably need to have 'games' somewhere in the title. As im planning on opening a website I will need a name that will get picked up by search engines etc.

I intend this thread to be a bit of fun as well so i'm open to any suggestions, no matter how bizarre! Of course like everyone else I want to find a name that is

a) Original
b) Short, snappy and easy to remember
c) Straight to the point

One of my objective's is to create a brand so my customer's instantly recognise the shop as mine and feel familar with my products. I have a few suggestions of my own but i'm not sure how good they are! My initial thoughts in creating a brand was to use something regional, a sort of identity for to distinguish myself from the rest. I don't know what everyone thinks but i'm sure you'll tell me!

As i'm from Lancashire (in the north-west of England in case you don't know) I was thinking of names such as:

1) North-West Games
2) Red Rose Games (this would give me a very easy logo to start with)

These are just a few off the top of my head thoughts so please feel free to give me feedback on them. I suppose this is where I hand it over to you guys, so if you get a minute please feel free to post your suggestions.

Many thanks in advance everyone, pleae have fun with this!

All suggesstions are welcome!

Justin

Game for a Laugh, In the Game, Game Station 360 , Game station 3, On the Game ? GamePlay , Penine Games,.

Just a couple to kick off with I'll have a proper think during the day, As a Yorkshire man I would suggest that you don't mention the Lancs connection you could put a lot of people off :-)

Ha! I didn't think about the old rivalry, maybe I can sell to everyone outside of Yorkshire with that name then! Knowing my luck someone will open a White Rose Games Store the day I open mine!

Seriously though, thanks for the suggestions, the more I get hopefully the easier it will be in deciding. I like your name as its imaginative and straight to the point, something i'm searching for so thanks so much for your thoughts!

Choosing your company name is a very important decision, so be sure not to choose the first name that pops into your head. You will potentially be using the name for many years to come, so make sure you like it.

You are currently selling games, is that all you want to sell? Sure, your just starting right now, in a few years, maybe even months you’ll probably want to expand into other product lines. So maybe you should consider that when choosing your name. This is something I personally find quite restricting.

You should have a look on the Company House website to check that the name is not already in use. Not only to see whether you can register it, but also for legal reasons.

Here is an article outlining the laws in the UK relating to company names;

http://www.companyregistrations.co.u...ing-a-name.asp

You mentioned eventually opening your own website, check that the domain is available. If it is, register it right away, even if you don’t want to use it just yet. Acquiring a domain name that is already registered can be very expensive so it’s something you should avoid. For search engine purposes, I don’t think the domain you choose is that important, focus on the end-user rather than a search engine bot.

You’re definitely on the right lines about creating a brand, in time a brand can literally sell itself. However, creating a successful brand is easier said than done. It takes more than a fancy logo, you need a name which is short, catchy, and informative to what you do/ sell. Humour always goes down well, but try to avoid making it cheesy. After all you want your customers and suppliers to take you seriously. Be cautious of the length, spelling (if your name is hard to spell, people will not return to you), flexibility (leaves room to expand, but keep the reputation you have already developed), and legalities.

Sorry, I don’t have any suggestions for you but I hope what I have said has given you something to think about.

Thanks a lot PT, as always your help is really appreciated. Your so right about the name being such an important decision, thats one of the reasons why I started the thread. I know it can sound a bit like a joke asking for suggestions but in all seriousness im hoping that a suggestion might trigger something for me.

I've also been thinking about your second point, about names restricting the products. Its a very hard thing to decide on, as you say, in a few months I might want to offer different products but for now I can't see that happening. Therein lies the problem: you can never predict these things, so for now im just trying to settle on a name for my current business.

It seems the more I try and think of an imaginative name, that is easy to remember, and describes exactly what im selling, the more I can't think of anything. Very frustrating but hoping for a moment of clarity!

Thanks again for the advice mate

Justin

Redcloud Horizons; RedRose Fun; Scarlet Scores; Scarlet Sunrise; Trafford Trickery; Salford Sunrise; MMagic; Sale Sunlight.

The creative juices are not exactly flowing, but maybe enough to spark something?

You need to realistically get something where the domain is avilable - so that is where I'd start.

I came up with my firm name (Comspec) by putting all of the relevant words into 2 columns in a spreadsheet, then mixing/matching words and parts of words until I settled on one I liked.
