Exclamation Wants a refund because the buyer found it cheaper elsewhere?

Recently I sold a book on a ebay, at the starting price of 0.99 pounds with 2.99 pounds postage; the item went for 10.50 pounds.

Few days later I get an message
Quote:
i got books today and i think i have been over charged for them u can buy theses ones in asda for 5 quid, im going to report this to ebay unless i get a full refund
This is rather humorous but what should I do?

Has this ever happened to you?

When a buyer agrees to buy something on eBay and pays for it, it's like a contract. The buyer can not cancel the contract once the item(s) are within his or her hands. eBay hopefully will have the sense to reply to the buyer stating that you haven't done anything wrong.

As long as you didn't say anything like - 'If you find it cheaper elsewhere, we'll beat or match the price', then as far as I'm aware he/ she has no right to ask for a refund. At the end of the day, he/ she shouldn't have bid that amount in the first place if they could get the book cheaper. However, your feedback may take a hit if you refuse to refund the buyer. The only thing that can happen is you'll receive a negative feedback, eBay are not going to take any action.

This is the reason I don't like selling on eBay (the fees are not a problem), its the way so many people feel they have the right to treat you so poorly.

I did not guarantee anything and I do not want negative feedback.

The person has replied:

Quote:
your a robbin **** who need to be banned from ebay
Looks like I am heading for negative feedback... anything I can do to prevent this (apart from refund)?

this person hasn't a clue , eBay isn't a shop its mainly auctions with rules, ie you bid for it you are signed via virtual contract to buy it if you win it..

for the buyer to then say that he has got the book now and hes angry because he found it cheaper is a joke, thats not your fault he should really like any other ebayer search for the item before hand.

I personally wouldn't refund! If they neg you, just explain calmly in the follow up feedback, the truth about this awful buyer!

I'd just ignore them and let them do their worst and then put your case!

Took late. He has left negative feedback.

Anything I can do to retract it?

No, you can't retract neg feedback, just explain calmly in the follow up.

Take some time to think about what you're going to say before you follow up!

Retaliate with a neg, if you haven't already done so.
