Default Ebay want you to offer free shipping....

From .com

May 22, 2008 | 05:06PM PST/PT

Kristina Klausen
Hi everyone. Offering free shipping is a great way to make your items stand out from your competition. Buyers love it, and it can help improve your Detailed Seller Ratings scores. If you haven't already tried it, now is a great time to start. From tomorrow, May 23rd through June 1st, you'll get 15% off your Final Value Fees when you offer Free Shipping on eBay.com and for Parts & Accessories listings on eBay Motors!

You can easily offer Free Shipping at the time of listing using either flat rate or calculated shipping. Not only could you get the discount, but items with Free Shipping also receive the eye-catching Free Shipping icon on the item page, and may receive additional exposure in Best Match.

To qualify, sellers must meet some basic criteria. For example, you must have a minimum score of 4.5 across all DSR categories (although new sellers with fewer than 10 DSRs are still eligible), and you can't require insurance on the item. Check out our information page for all the details.

It's a great time to try out Free Shipping, and enjoy the Final Value Fee savings!

Sincerely,

Kristina Klausen
Sr. Director, Shipping

In a Bad way:

so much for super fast shipping then. Sellers will start to use cheaper options if this is implemented on a full time basis.

In a good way:

it will reduce those using low buy it now prices, high shipping.

The end result is 'more money for eBay!'

They should just cut the crap and charge FVF on sale price + postage.

it would be easier if they said all prices shown to customers must include shipping. At least it would remove the £0.01 lines with £10 postage!

Ebay did add a search option of lowest with P&P.

I think it all depends on what people are buying some items do cost a lot to send. However some ebayers do look at postage as a way to make a higher profit, not something I would condone.

In the end free shipping isnt free - you pay for it either in the item cost or get a slower shipping service.

I don't agree with it personally, ebay just getting more commission, people should see what the shipping cost involves, otherwise they will attatch no value to it anymore.

FREE is a bad word for a seller.

You either pay £4.99 + £2 shipping or £6.99 with free shipping. That's the economics.

I have been offering free shipping on most of my sales via my eBay shop for around 2 months now, and my customers like it, and keep coming back for more I link the idea of it, and if it helps to stop the £0.01 + £49.99 shipping from China then I'm happy!
