Angry So here it is - eBay Sets Shipping Cost Limits!

Most of us probably already knew that this is coming sooner or later... Well, the good news are the they are launching this on eBay.de site for now. But I'm sure it won't take long for other sites to follow. Read my blog entry here.

How this will affect eBay sellers? For those who have been making profit from a difference they charge for a shipping and actual shipping cost, this may hurt. Of course, rules are the same for every one - so basically, prices for small items (like video games, DVDs) will increase to cover profit loss on shipping.

One thing is for sure - 8 EUR shipping limit on wholesale goods is ridiculous.

personally this is excellent, for too long ebayers have taken advantage of this. Be honest, show and honest price even if it is higher and true shipping. About a year ago a buyer tried to charge me £34 shipping for an item that would have cost just over £7.
Ebay done something good??? Must be cold in hell today.

I see it from a different point of view - there's no offense from a seller.
If you think their shipping charge is too high, don't buy from that seller.

How can someone "try to charge you"??? Shipping costs are displayed
in listings...

How about when 2KG+ costs over £20 to send via Special Delivery?

If you are not happy with shipping costs then don't buy an item. Also, although less frequent these days, people expect to get a £10 item for 99p plus £1 shipping instead of £99p plus £9 shipping. You have to take in to account the TOTAL PRICE not just the shipping price.

No dont agree you have to think of the customer and unfortunately you have to think with your brains in your feet at times and some will look at the £10 price and think wow what a bargain go straight to buy and then notice the £30 shipping for the dvd (example). Why would you want to try to mislead the customer because thats what they are doing, trying to hide the extra charge as much as possible there is now way of trying to justify it, how can anyone.

Do people do this on their business websites then?

With the "try to charge me" he had no shipping you had to contact him so I did and didnt bother replying after hearing the con.

The prices on Ebay are going to increase by quite a lot I should think with this idea which is exactly what they want, killing some businesses along the way. People buying from Ebay want to pay next to nothing for anything inc postage so they too are in line for a shock.
Postage is increasing a lot (Royal Mail), are Ebay going to keep in line with the increases as and when they happen?? I doubt it!
Anyone know of some auction sites with traffic other than Ebay and Amazon??
I might give them a try.

Sorry forgot about this bit.

Yep Ebay still manage to **** something up but thats another reason why Ebay should have some sort of regulation or at least have an independent body review the entire system.

Yes some on there should be killed off. How does Income Tax work then?

Item should be £20
Sell it for £10

Add the other £10 to postage

So you work a profit from the £10 and pocket the other £10?

Sorry for hogging the Forum. In regards to Costaconsoles I see where your coming from with the traders who over charge drastically. I charge the cost of postage + Ebay fees + packing costs and my feedback is spot on. All that will have to be added to the cost of the item and I will get a FVF for it!! Its not fair on us and the customer is no better off because the charges still have to be paid.

Ok, understand Ebay fees as that can be classed as admin charge. So here is a question.

Why do it? Why list the item as cheap and charge extra postage and would be curious about people thoughts on the tax declared.
