New Trader Seeking Advice and Tips on My ebay Business Start Up
Hello everyone, my 1st post...
I've been working as a labourer on building sites for about 4 years, before that i had been workin on production lines etc and i'm dying to start something that will allow me to work for myself, all i want is around £200 a week to support myself, i've been braking my back on building sites for minimum wage up to now and i hate waking up aching in pain, i dont want to feel it each time i bend down to get the milk out of the fridge.
I've been reading posts on this site for a while now to learn a few things and
I have decided to start selling designer sunglasses (authentic) on ebay, I have found a supplier, I would be paying around £45 (including delivery) for a pair of sunglasses and selling for about £59.
Does anyone know (roughly) how much of the £59 i would be paying ebay and pay pal?
I estimate postage costs at around £5 and ebay+paypal fees at £3
so i think i would be making around £6 net profit on each unit sold, which means i need to sell 6 units a day to make £36 a day (net profit).
I would love your expert advice, Is this a realistic goal? what mistakes have i made in my calculations? have I missed something?
and also
am i better off listing as Buy It Now or as a Auction?
Thanks

Just to give you my 10p's worth, why not look at a completly different business on eBay. Lots of other sellers sell designed glasses, and you have to be VERY careful that you don't end up selling fakes?
Why not use the business you have been in for a long time, and make some money through that route? What am I talking about......
Clothes for Builders, easy to get hold of, good prices and nice profits + you already have contacts in the business?
Have a look at http://www.thatchreed.co.uk for new clothing. Just a quick look on Google will bring up other companies doing the same type of thing as well!
Good luck

This might make ebay's fees a bit clearer to you.

I think your goal is very realistic but agree with Tango34uk that you should look into different market. Designer sunglasses are hot sellers but at the same time - market is over saturated. Well, generally that's not a bad thing BUT for a newbie it may be too difficult.

i worked for a large company, so i dont really have any contacts, and they supply thier own builders vests to all thier employees, as with the clothes, most the guys wear what they want, as long as they wear boots they can wear any bottoms, jeans, tracksuits etc with any types of tops,
i may do some research to see if i can sell them on ebay but as far as me selling them to the people i worked, i dont think it'll work, thanks though

thanks again, all the info much appreciated, plus i've been watching a few designer sunglasses on ebay, and out of 10, about 3 go for the £60+ mark with others selling at around £40, which is about what i'd be paying for them, then i've got all the postage, ebay and paypal fees to consider, so i'm unsure if i should take the risk as the supplier has a £250 minimum order.
what other products could you suggest for which the market is less saturated?
thanks

It's a spread sheet I put together in excel. Took a couple of hours to put together but makes it very quick to compare the costs of listing something. I've now extended it to also show eBid costs.
