With the new Feedback rules being implemented at ebay,
It is the perfect time to start getting something for nothing from ebay, while playing their own game.
(or at least what they are encouraging)

Rules:

1) Find item you would like to bid on

2) Place Bid on the item

3) Pay for and receive the item

4) Post negative Feedback

5) Have Seller issue refund

6) Retract Feedback if you want

The above method will actually cause 2 effects.

1) You stand a excellent chance of getting your item(s) for FREE!

2) This will also cause ebay to eventually crumble if enough buyers follow this practice,
As sellers will eventually stop using ebay once they realize they can not make a living in this environment.

If you use the Pay Pal service you can easily prove item was paid for removing any unpaid item strikes.
If any are even incurred.
Most sellers are so relived to have a negative strike removed I think you will find very few even reporting a item as unpaid.
Especially when they know they have issued the refund, Keeping your account fairly safe.

Although I do not necessarily endorse getting something for nothing,
With ebays new Feedback system, you are playing within the rules they have set.

Ebay has become awful over the last year or so imo. For me personally. The last 5 purchases I have made have resulted in 3 causing problems. As for selling, very rarely I do this due to fees and potential scammers. When I have a problem seller who is trying to con me I dont take it kindly and tend to find out whatever I can about them. Latest one got a shock when I found there number listed elsewhere online. To be fair he has sorted the issue now.

any seller that issues a refund without receiving the item back into their posession shouldn't be in business, who wrote the above article a 9 year old?

Yes the feedback system will be wide open to abuse but one positive that should come out of it - just watch and see the negatives for sellers of fake merchandise soar they are about to be culled.

I cannot confirm it is true but someone was saying on another forum that distance selling regs mean technically YOU should refund on request before the goods are returned.

As you mentioned though, chances of that are very low

Lighthousedirec,

Yes, it is true. The way the DSR read on this matter is quite clear. What greedyboy presented is quite worrying also. However, if a person is required to operate their business within the law, then refusing to refund will bring that person into conflict with it. See further information on the Office of Fair Trading website www.oft.gov.uk

Not true. If the customer says that they haven't recieved the order and you have sent it via untrackable means then by law you must replace/refund. This is the loophole that the article is highlighting.

I disagree nowhere does it state anything about untrackable means, even if it did that is nothing new, that is the playing field ebay sellers are on at the moment and have been for some time. Send goods without tracking you run the risk of losing out its been that way for years. here is what the quote says:

1) Find item you would like to bid on

2) Place Bid on the item

3) Pay for and receive the item

4) Post negative Feedback

5) Have Seller issue refund

6) Retract Feedback if you want

The article is clearing trying to influence buyers to use negative feedback threats as the tool to obtain free merchandise i.e. to encourage dishonesty amongst ebay buyers, in my opinion the author has one helluva chip on his shoulder against ebay - possibly a banned user?

The difference is that after the 'feedback Ban' a seller will be unable to leave honest feedback against the buyer, leaving them with a clear profile to pull the scam time and time again.

I agree with the fact that the author of the piece is either a disgruntled seller or something similar but the new rules will just increase the 'not received' scam.

There are clear problems with the new plans but eBay have found that one of the main reasons for buyers leaving is negitave feedback and the inability to leave honest negitave comments without reprocussions. It's a tough one.
