If you don't keep all your DSR's above 4.5 you MAY get kicked off the powerseller program!

This at the moment only applies to .com but no doubt will be introduced to .co.uk eventually.

Quote:
This icon next to a member's user ID means that the seller meets the criteria for being a PowerSeller - consistent sales volume, 98% total positive Feedback, eBay marketplace policy compliance, an account in good financial standing, and beginning in July 2008, detailed seller rating (DSRs) of 4.5 or higher in all four DSRs - item as described, communication, shipping time, and shipping and handling charges. If a seller no longer complies with any one of the above requirements, they are removed from the program.
Personally, I don't give a toss as I concentrate on the money that lands in my pocket and not the shiny badge! However not qualifying for the discounts is a bummer.

I think it's a good idea to be honest. It gives a meaning to 'Powerseller'. Currently as you say being a Powerseller means nothing, but it will have huge benifits after the changes.

I know powersellers with 40,000+ feedback who can't manage 4.5 DSR's (usually postage) as customers expect you to delivery 30kg orders the next day for the price of a first class stamp. DSR's are marked by idiots with expectations John Lewis or M&S would probably not achieve.

We Post daily, hundreds upon hundreds of orders every month and a majority arrive the next working day. Every customer comments on our 'speedy delivery' and yet we can not manage 4.5 for postage. Recently we have been trialling free delivery and still we do not achieve the unachievable. So what does that tell you?

Ebay offers us nice big discounts to reward us and then move the goal posts to take it back

Anyway, like I say it's irrelevant plus Amazon is the place for serious businesses which is hand as we just had our best weekend on there ever

Even eBay's biggest seller only manages 4.4 for postage

I think the problem is that buyers on eBay haven't been told how to use the DSR rating system. As you say, there are a few eBayers who offer free postage and still don't achieve 5.

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out. There are lots of sellers who won't qualify for the discounts but will still have to put up with the FVF increases so the success of this change depends on how they act.

On the Amazon subject, it's a great place to sell. The main reason for this is that it's not currently flooded with sellers. I've got a feeling this is going to change!

I can see what ebay are trying to do. They want a more up market 'marketplace' similar to Amazon or Play etc. That I can understand and makes it possibly a better commercial decision for them.

The only thing is the DSR's are in the hands of a majority of idiots with unreasonable expectations. They don't understand overheads, VAT and the pixies who live at the bottom of the garden who pack our orders for free.

I believe in rewarding quality sellers however the DSR's are flawed and therefor not an accurate measure of your performance.

Amazon has been performing great for us month on month. We also have the best two selling products in one of the categories - buy box heaven!. As for more sellers, bring them on, the majority won't be able to compete as they have trouble running a bath let alone a successful business

I have to agree that the DSR's are flawed, this "development" on the .com site will be one to keep an eye on. Interesting to see how many powersellers currently fall into the category of keeping the powerseller standard once these measures come into place, currently my account will keep the status but it really is a no hoper that this will stay the same due to the way it is so easy to skew the postage DSR...

Ebay intentions seem right but unfortunately they assume that everyone operates in a fair and understanding manner whereas this simply isn't the case..

The situation my change when the DSR's are based on a rolling 30 day basis........ time will tell.

It will still be based on averages and an average of an average is still an average, the only difference is that there will be peaks and troughs of ratings but if you lose it (powerseller) how quickly does it come back based on new rules..

The DSR's are not averaged, all must be 4.6 or above if you are referring to the discount scheme.

Each individual DSR (esp. the postal one) is an average is what I meant, hence the peaks and troughs base on a rolling 30 day period depending on volume of feedback/sales etc
