Default How often does this happen ?

Hi all,

I sent out six Ben 10 Omnitrix's yesterday.
Had one feedback so far saying very pleased etc.
I was feeling pretty good with things until....this arrived via Ebay message:

"Hi
This item is not 'Brand New' it has a homemade wrist band which is falling apart. You can either refund me or send me a new one as advertised. I'll send this one back when we have sorted it out. I won't leave any feedback for now."

I of course offered my apologies and either a full refund or a replacement(whilst telling the guy that all the others were likely to be the same)

Now my question is: Is this guy for real or is this a common trick of getting out of paying for stuff ?

I think people on here know where I gt the Ben 10's from so there can be no doubt as to the validity of the mechandise
rgds,
Anthony

Since the new feedback rules buyers have sellers over a barrel and they know that. Some try and take advantage of this and try and get something for nothing - not saying this buyer is like this but they are about. There could be a genuine problem with one of the watches - if he offers to send it back before you send a replacement i would say he is not what i described above.

At the end of the day mate, the customer is always right .

It seems pretty crap - but if I were you, I'd maintain a professional attitude and send him a refund.

If he tries anything funny, report him to Paypal or eBay.

What kind of feedback does he have ?

Hi guys,

You can see from his message that he offered to return the watch AFTER I sorted the problem out.
Here's the message I sent him immediately after I received his message:

Hi Chris,
I'm very sorry to hear yo are not happy with your Ben 10 Omnitrix. I can assure you it is brand new. I cannot be responsible for the quality of the product as I've never opened one. I am as disappointed as you. It is entirely up to you whether I refund you or send you a replacement(the only problem is that they are all the same I should think) Anyway let me know what you want to do and I'll be happy to oblige. Keep the one you have anyway, regards,Anthony

as you say, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet(easier if the item in question is not worth a lot of money !!)
cheers,
Anthony

Ok, I've had a reply to my message.

Hi

If the rest of your stock has the possibility of being the same as this one then it might be a good idea to have a look at them; it's definitely a homemade strap. I can probably blag it with my boy until the strap breaks which is going to be very soon as it's hanging on by a thread at the moment. I am not happy with the price though; if we can do something about that, I'll rig up a new strap for him and we'll leave it at that.

Now I have opened one and the strap is in fact a piece of eleastic with velcro either end. You thread it through the back of the watch and it does the job. Does anyone know if this is the correct strap to have with this watch. I think it is and the customer has been looking at the more expensive watches which have proper straps. What I found interesting is that he's now offered to keep the watch if we can negotiate on price
I'll just tell him to keep it with my best wishes.
cheers,
Anthony

Don't give him a full refund. Ask him what he would accept to keep the watch. It doesn't sound to me like the buyer is trying it on with you, just dissapointed that he has paid more than he feels the item is worth.

oops too late I've already offered him a full refund

It's not the end of the world.......it's less than a tenner.
It'll only take me three days to earn that back

Well this to me seems like he doesnt want you to see the fantastic quality.

He is saying he is going to give it to his boy, fair enough. He must ship it back to you though, so you can check, then you ship back to him and give a refund. Otherwise he could just be playing you for a discount.

moral of the story never offer a refund, until you have inspected the item yourself!
