hi

i`ve got lots of stuff around the house i would like to sell on ebay. Since this will be the first time i`ll be selling on ebay i`ve got a question: When is the best time to start an auction?? i.e. day of week and time of day.
The things i`ll be selling are a expensive piano (total waste of money), lots of cds, a scanner, a bike, books and lots of other things that i cant think of right now but no info products or clothes.
I need cash and make some space.
Any help would be helpful.

thanks
tony

Hi Tony,

I have been selling on ebay for a while now and recently became a powerseller. There is certainly no best time for selling on ebay as there are always millions of potential customers just waiting for a bargain.I do however find that a 3 day auction works best for my product and a Sunday evening finish seems to yield the best price, although this may not necessarily work for everyone.

The best advice i can give is research your competitors and set a realistic price, along with unrivalled customer service and you should get the sales you are looking for.

P.s Any big items, do not forget to sort out delivery costs and get a great description together.

Best of luck

Just wanted to say, with my products I need to list for the max. 10 days to get the best prices. I agree with Sunday night finish though. I usually list on a Thursday evening so this way I hit two weekends. I think you need to list for as long as possible with large items like a piano as not everyone is going to travel miles to collect this and it could take more than 3 days to get enough people who are reasonably local to see the auction.
Free listing days quite often seem to fall on a Thursday and there hasn't been one for a while (unless I missed it!), it could be worth you waiting a few weeks to see if one comes up as it will save you some money.
Good luck

I run auctions & BIN's all the time, but I tend to build to finish on Sunday night. I find that it's not so much the starting time but the finishing time. Most of my auctions only get action in the last 24 hours. For this reason I use a lot of 24 hour ones timed to finish at about 1.00am.

If you're selling something original or " collectable " I'd suggest longer times to give more buyers a chance to see it.

Hi,

By now you should have received notice from eBay.co.uk that there will be a special offer on Thursday 15th

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Quote:
You pay only £0.01 to use the 'Gallery' listing enhancement feature (Normally £0.15). Whats included?
All items listed for sale in Pounds Sterling (GBP) in any category including Motors and Real Estate. Only listings on eBay.co.uk, during the period stated above and that have selected the 'Gallery' listing enhancement option are eligible. The Gallery feature fee only will be reduced to £0.01, all other fees will still apply, including the Gallery Featured listing enhancement.[/b]
I think the question of when to list things is very important. It really depends when your potential customers are around. For example if you want to include people in the US you may have to finish your auction when they are around. Taking into account the things you are going to sell I say you would do fine listing for the UK market.

In my experience many people are out on Sunday nights - pubs, clubs, cinemas etc and so I'd suggest arranging to finish your auctions on Monday nights. I'd list things for the full 10 days. If you plan to list a lot of things on the one day stagger the finishing times a little (15 or 30 mins) just in case people want to bid on a few of your items at the last moment.

I hope this is helpful.....
