I sell on eBay now and then, and have 830 feedback rating.

Ive just sold a batch of Wii Fit units on eBay perfectly fine, over the past 2 weeks or so. All have sold.

I also listed a laptop, but eBay have just removed the buy-it-now auction for it!

This is what they sent me...

Quote:
We appreciate that you chose eBay to list your Fixed Price listing(s). However, we have removed your listing because it breached our Business Address. policy. We notified members who placed bids on the item that the listing has been canceled.

Why did we remove your listing?

Your listing(s) contains the following information:

'Contact Information' is not displayed on the View Item page ? in the Business Seller Information section, About Me page, Shop or on a Shop?s custom page.

In accordance with the Electronic Commerce (EC Direct) Regulations 2002, sellers operating as a business on eBay.co.uk must clearly display their business name and geographic address in at least one of the following locations:

- On the View Item page – in the Business Seller Information section
- On their About Me Page
- On a Shop's custom page that is no more than one click from their main Shop page

Please note that:

- PO Box addresses are not considered to be geographic addresses, and will not be accepted as a valid business address.
- Businesses choosing to display their name and address on the View Item page must display that information in the Business Seller Information section. Displaying the name and address in the item description only is insufficient.
- Businesses should ensure that their address details follow accessibility guidelines. If an image file is used to display the business address, alternative text ('ALT text') containing the business details should be used for that image.

For more information on the eBay Contact Information policy, please visit:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/contact-information.html

Your listing(s) may be eligible for relisting through My eBay. If your listing is eligible, you'll see it in the Unsold Items section of My eBay. Listings that are not eligible for relisting will not be visible in the Unsold Items page.

To relist your item, log in to My eBay, go to your Unsold Items and select the item that was cancelled -- it's highlighted with a yellow banner. Before relisting, please make any changes necessary to ensure that the listing is in compliance with the law and eBay policies. You might want to check your other listings for similar breaches as well.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If your listings breach eBay policy in future, your eBay privileges could be suspended. We value you as a member of our community and wish to continue this relationship, so we must ask you to refrain from further breaches of the User Agreement and eBay policy.

My listing is in my unsold items section, so Im assuming its eligible to be relisted. However, should I go ahead??

I am not a business, and do not have a business address. My eBay account correctly has my home address - how can I give them a business or shop address when i do not have one??!!

So, should I just relist the item?? Ive emailed eBay, but we all know what they are like with emails! Im not sure what to do next?!

You have to display your address on your auction if you do not have a shop.

If you buy to sell on then you are a business.

Im not a business at al.

So if you buy to resell, then you are classed as a business user??

If I change my account to a business account, does that mean i get charged more fee's or have to pay more tax etc??

I dont understand?!

Ive just been reading up on eBay - it seems that since I have bought items to resell, that means I need o have a business account.

What does this mean though?
I need to pay extra VAT or something??

So changing my account to business on eBay doesnt really make much difference, but just means I personally need to declare the income to HMRC myself?

No you should declare anyway. But if you upgrade to business account and dont then it would be tax evasion (and will not be able to claim you did not know because you have made the decision to upgrade so you admit you are a business).
