usually, brand name products come with warranty cards..it shouldnt matter where you bought it, coz in the end, how would the company(eg sony, apple, MS) know where the product was purchased. What matters is that their product is faulty and they will have to do something about it

I thought they will ask receipt to know when you purchased.

This is a very good question
I had a customer for a PSP who contacted me about the warranty. He says Sony needs a receipt in order to be covered via the warranty. He is asking me for the receipt??
Suggestions?

I always issue an Invoice for everything I sell (eg through eBay), on items that are new and supplied to me with 12 mths warranty. I really don't know if it's worth the paper it's written on, to be honest! However, I was told by my supplier that it is a chain eg manufacturer...wholesaler...supplier...me.
I guess the day will come when one of my customers needs to use their warranty and produces my Invoice. All I can say is I am a legitimate registered business with an ABN (in Australia) but I'm not sure how the manufacturer would look at that... ?? if anyone can add more to this, I would be grateful...

In the UK to claim under a warrenty the majority of the time you have to return the item to the retailer you bought it off who will then deal with it. So unless you deal with the manufacturer you may have problems, if you import the item yourself from abroad unless you have a specific arrangement with your supplier you take on all liability for the warrenty.

Also under the sales of goods act you can be held liable for the goods failing for upto 6 years after you sold them.

Its not all the bad though, quoting from the DTI "An item only needs to last as long as it is reasonable to expect it to, taking into account all the factors", but if it were an expensive electronic item then its not unreasonable to expect it to last for 6 years.
