EBay has said it intends to ban trade in all knives, apart from cutlery knives, on its UK and Ireland websites.
The ban will be implemented "as soon as possible" in order to provide a "safe" marketplace for its members, it said.
EBay said the ban was the best measure, bearing in mind the "complex" laws surrounding knife sales in the UK.

They'll ban all knives apart from cutlery knives? What about steak knives? Aren't they just as lethal?

They are but they are not the weapon of choice for knife carrying thugs the ban is aimed at.

Good call by eBay in my opinion but in the context of the situation as a whole, doubt it will have any effect what so ever. It's not going to stop those that carry or wish to carry knives from continuing to do so.

Of course they will like to get some PR miles out of it even though they are breaking UK laws in the first instance.

Course it does.

It's great PR to be honest and one of the few things they have done right in the last few months (years!). It just shows that they are doing their bit and hopefully others will follow.

It's not the clamping down of the sale of these items that is going to help the matter though, the problems are at grassroots level where youngsters feel the need to carry them and on occasion, actually use them.

Unfortunately its the mentality of a growing proportion of the British public that are responsible for the problem we see today.

How true! What scared me last nite was the knife decribed as self defence and was made of plastic so wouldnt be detected by metal detectors. Why would any normal person want that!!
