If a sale has gone through, and a buyer begins a dispute which goes in his/her favour (as we all know they favour the buyers!), what happens if you dont have the funds in your PayPal account?

On higher value items I usually wait until the funds have been withdrawn to my bank before I send the item. So if my PayPal balance is 0, do PayPal automatically take the amount from my bank or credit card?? Or does my PayPal account just go into a negative balance?

im sure they cant take it from your bank not 100% sure though, i think like you say paypal goes to minus.
i have just withdrew all money out of my paypal because after 4 weeks and positive feedback has been left for me, the buyer now claims he wants a refund because all the batteries have leaked on all the units i sold him.

PayPal will put your account into minus, if you dont put the money back into your account/sell more to get out of the negative they will take the money back from your bank account.

This happened to me on my personal account, but it is going back 7/8yrs now so not sure if the rules have changed. I disputed and said I wasnt going to pay - They sent me a nice letter then took the money and showed me the door - You live, You learn

Your account will go into a minus and a debt collector will give you a call a few weeks/ months down the line.

Hmm, maybe it's not the case anymore but I have seen that in a similar situation PayPal takes the fund from your credit card on the file - without asking you anything (once the dispute is closed).

But that was 2 years ago so I'm not sure whatever it still apply.

but wouldnt that be an unauthorised transaction and part of the direct debit guarantee thing is that the bank has to reimburse you for unauthorised transactions.

PayPal have just done this to me had a buyer who bought 1 very expensive phone i held the payment for 5 days no warnings from PayPal so i sent it she received it left me great feedback and a week latter ordered a second one so sent that and thought great made 300 quid on two sales,

Then 2 weeks latter PayPal hold over 1,800 pounds putting my account in negative saying it was an unauthorised payment and the card holder was disputing the payment.

So another two weeks latter they email me saying they are working on my behalf to dispute the charge back by the credit card company,

Hold on i said I've sent you all tracking info proving delivery etc but they now say so what once a charge back is filed we take it from your account so now i have to wait up to 80 days for a decision off them weather they are going to honor their seller protection policy.

What a load of rubbish they should be fighting the case for themselves not on my behalf they are a law on to themselves and now eBay called me today to ask for my fees that are overdue i said you've got a nerve your holding near 2k of mine now F off and guess what the guy was great and told me we are sick of PayPal, What eBay own PayPal he said no we work alongside but we don't like them as much as you well i was LMFAO seriously.
