Knew it's gonna happen one of those days and here comes!

There have been a few occasions that I had people come and collect the item from me after the winning bidding or/and the purchase. I sincerely believe people are good in general. As much as it sounds naive, I've had nothing but good/pleasant encounter!

... until now, that is.

Can't avoid a rotten apple at times huh?

He bought one item, paid by PayPal £200.00 and came and collected it as agreed since he is not living too far. I felt rather uneasy as he had no record of previous transactions - he was a newbie! Then again, I sold lots to the first time buyer - no problem. Exchanged a few more messages. He sounded alright. Came that evening to collect it. Seemed a decent guy.

Next day, he contacted me again, saying he saw another one of the same items. Wanted to buy one more. Paid £200 again by PayPal. Came to collect it that evening. Yeah, definitely a decent guy.

Here comes a bombshell! After 3 weeks, I received a notification of Chargeback from PayPal. I am sure I will have one more chargeback notified very soon

My precaution told me to write transaction details on a piece of paper and get him to sign on collection. I knew this wouldn't help much in terms of PayPal seller protection but thought it would make him think twice.

I have a very slim chance of getting £400 back but am gonna try to send a copy of the paper he signed. At least, PayPal can submit that to a card issurer to cross check with a card holder's signature. If these were purchased by a stolen card, which I suspect is the case, my hard earned £400 is out of window!

Lessons learnt ;
"When an item is collected in person, accept cash payment only!"

Anyone who has experienced something similar with a positive result?

Has a reason been given for the chargeback?

Cash on Collection always, just hope it doesn't happen on the second one.

Nope, there's nothing whatsoever

It says something like, 'No details from the buyer'

Thank you.

But it is very unlikely that it is NOT gonna happen

He's trying it on, or he's used someone elses paypal account and the legitimate owner of the account has instigated the chargeback.

I KNOW!

I thought it would take a lot for a scammer to go that far.

The thing is he seems just perfectly a normal guy! Well, looks can be deceiving eh?

I've been thanked for my dismay!
