Thumbs down eBay taking my listings down

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get into dropshipping and thought I'd start off with some mp3 players. I thought I'd do one on ebay just as a kind of practice run. I looked on ebay and as you probably all know there's tonnes of them on there, but thought I'd have a go anyway.

I scheduled a listing for "ipod shuffle style mp3 player [...]" which was removed by ebay as it featured the brand name. Fair enough I thought, although I'd seen hundreds on ebay with the word "ipod" in them already it says in the email I wasn't targeted in any way... so I relisted it as "shuffle style mp3 player [...]" which was also taken down. In my description I wasn't trying to pass it off as a real one either in fact I stated that it wasn't.

I emailed them about it and they said "Please note that eBay does not allow the sale of generic mp3 players on the site and as the mp3 player you were selling was a generic one, it was removed from the site." so this guy's telling me unbranded mp3 players aren't allowed on ebay full stop? am I missing something here?

Could anyone advise me on this?

Thanks

Maybe they have a letter from Apple to remove similar looking items?

Reckon they have decided to remove items that appear to be passing themselves off as originals, no matter what the description says, was bound too happen, ebay wouldn't want any legal action against them.

Well that would be a huge bummer. But I find it weird that they were so quick to remove my one listing when there are loads of other people selling stack loads of them and clearly have been for a while (probably some of the guys on this forum) who not only use the brand name in their title but don't make it clear in the description that they're not the real thing?? Very confused. Guess I'll have to try somewhere else :/

Check those listings that went untouched and compare them to your own. You may have used wording, images and so forth that just aren't permitted. eBay is a fickle yet strict (at times) marketplace to do business on.

Just don't use words like "ipod", "shuffle" and similar ones in the listings title.

I listed again without the words Ipod and Shuffle and they haven't taken it down... It seems although they say "generic mp3 players" are not allowed they aren't so bothered when the brand names aren't used. I'm still confused about the sellers who are getting away with using those words though :S

iPod is obviously a trade marked name, I would think shuffle will be when related to mp3 players, so just make sure you keep the listing as clean as possible, but make it as attractive as you can.

its the word "style" in your title. that will be the reason! you aren't allowed to make comparisons in your title to attract more buyers. you can use comparisons in your description only.

If you import goods from china , remember to ask them not with ipod / nano / shuffle on the invoice for custom if not original . some times you can even not use name not like mp4 / mp3 etc .
