Hosting Photos for eBay
In the past I would upload any extra images I wanted to include in my listing(s) onto my own hosting account, and then add them into the listing. However I found this really time consuming going through FTP and uploading all the photos as this is how I would do it. So to try and make things a bit easier I switched to use Photobucket for awhile but now I find myself not finding this the easiest nor the best way to go.
I'm trying to find a photo upload script that I can put into a (passworded) folder on my domain/hosting, which will let me just bulk upload all my photos, maybe with some little helpful options like the Rotate & Resize? Is there anything like this which is completely eBay orientated, script or a running website?
To add to this topic, what method do you use to host photos you add to your listing?
J

Re: Hosting Photos for eBay
Surely FTP is the fastest route, just use a program like Core FTP Lite.

Re: Hosting Photos for eBay
Uploading them to your own webspace has to be the easiest. As to editing them and re-sizing them, you can do this quite efficiently through Photoshop and other related applications, of course you have to own them, though.
Preparing your listing is part of the pre-sales processes, streamline it the best you can or do not provide custom photos.

Your own hosting account is the best way to go with.
Use good FTP client and it will take just few secs to upload all your images.
For image resizing, cropping use Photoshop, Elements or any free graphics software that supports batch mode.

Re: Hosting Photos for eBay
My downfall with the FTP Uploading must be that I'm using an FTP client add-on for Firefox, instead of a standalone application, it wasn't very efficient if I'm being honest so I'll try using a standalone FTP app.
I totally didn't think about the batch mode, though Photoshop can still be a bit sluggish for me as I'm not running the best piece of hardware at the moment. Though I'll just have to do something like commit processing power into a session of Photo editing rather than trying to do it all at once.
Cheers for your input guys.

Re: Hosting Photos for eBay
Not sure if anyone else does this but I actually run a secondary machine with Linux on it which is online 24/7 - I built the machine from scratch and installed an 80% energy effecient power supply unit in attempt to cut the elctricity bill.
I've installed apache web-server and basically from my main windows machine I can access the HTML folder and copy the photo's over that I want to host.
You would ideally need a static IP address to do this or a DNS server to point to your IP address which you can easily update if the IP changes.
I guess, some technical skills involved with this kind of setup but it works great for me. I also host my CSS there so I can update my listing design on the fly.

Re: Hosting Photos for eBay
Why would you need to do this? (Apart from that it sounds like a great project to do).
These days you can get super-trooper quality hosting for $5 a month! For total hands free operation! No risk, no stress - Nothing!
I don't think building your own server is the best idea to host images for eBay business...

Re: Hosting Photos for eBay
Well, I done it for the project partly but it works great for me as I never have to upload any photo's, I have hosting as well, a dedicated server in fact, I just find this an easy method. Each to their own guess
