Re: Big changes ahead for sellers
Why should Ebay worry - they have an economy the size of California and that was several years ago.
Can I just say as a buyer (soon to be a seller) life for a buyer on Ebay has not been all that rosie.
For many years the seller did get more protection than the buyer.
Im locked in a dispute with a seller at the moment (items not recieved) and a paypal alert has had to be instigagated.
No answer to my emails from the seller - and no answer to my calls.
This seller took my payment straight away - and yet I have to wait 4o+ days or whatever before I can get my money back..
This seller is not listing anymore items and will probably pop up with another name.
So I can see both sides in respect of buying and selling on Ebay.
I am sorry to sound 'old fashioned' but the saying 'look after your customers they are always right' - has never been more apt - when so many sellers are chasing fewer buyers..

Its because P&P is not subject to eBay fee's!
By making P&P free, sellers have no option but to factor the cost of P&P into the item price, pushing the item price up a little. This means, when the item sells, the total cost is subject to eBay fee's - meaning more money for eBay!!
Then you get shafted again with PayPal fee's.
Im starting to move away from eBay now - its a complete rip off. Just more ways for them to make more from people's small profits!

Very, very true indeed.

Re: Big changes ahead for sellers
As this is the same for everyone, wont everyone just up their prices to include postage?

Do not worry you'll get you money back 100%, so long as the seller doesn't have a tracking number with a signture. Paypal always refund in that case you if you used ebay even if a sellers cleared their account of all funds.

Thats exactly what will happen. I always find it funny the way ebay market it as free P&P it just included in the cost of the item.

Exactly I've since this problem where the true cost of the item has been hidden by large P&P costs and lower item BIN prices. One of the reasons I stopped selling everything with free P&P.

I have to agree, sure ebay will say it want the buyers want, but really the main reason is the extra money they can make while claiming to be giving the buyer what they want.
Overall I'm not too worried about this, as it shouldn't accept me too much. It may even bring in more buyers. Ebay does well for me as it continues to bring in the traffic (maybe not as much as before but its still a lot) so I'll continue to use it. The fee's are quite high, but at the end of the day I'm paying for the traffic ebay can bring.

If you compare the fees to what the cost of a shop on the high street would be - and that would not bring in anywhere near the amount of visitors.

I understand what you mean. But i shipped 6 DVD's to latvia today and it cost me £4.99.
I did combine postage, i didnt loose money (as i sold 6 dvd's) , but it cut into my profits.
If i were to offer free P&P that would be a big no no. Luckily thats the last lot and my main category isnt included in the free P&P categories.

I know I will get my money back - but that is not the whole issue.
I purchased the items because I wanted them ASAP - and when sellers do this, it leaves a nasty taste.
The money was taken from my account as I paid as soon as the listing ended, so the seller was more than able to complete that side of the transaction - and yet I have to sit it out and wait.
I expect the postage issue on Ebay will sort itself out - if we want to still use Ebay to trade we do not have a lot of choice really, do we?

Thats something ebay need to look at, I've seen a number of threads on the powerseller forum complaining about being unable to give discounts on multiple free P&P orders. However if they give you the option of editing the totals for free P&P maybe people will realise its not really free.

Did you pay for RM Special Delivery? If you paid via 1st Class, I couldn't have given a refund until 14 working days have passed, as then and only then will RM class it as lost. Royal Mail can take ages to delivery 1st Class even if it is should only take 1 or 2 working days.
You right and unfortunately your have go with the flow as ebay are not going to listen to the sellers even if they make fair points.

Re: Big changes ahead for sellers
The seller has vanished - I have had no contact from bidding and winning the item and them taking my money.
I have sent several emails before I opened the dispute, and they do not answer the telephone that they have listed (in fact they run a shop)!!
They also had 2 other items listed when I bought mine - which they withdrew.
No feedback for over 6 weeks...
Still you live and learn and although they only had a feedback of 14 (no negs) it shall try to not let it put me off new sellers..
