Default Big changes ahead for sellers

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/april2009/index.html

Free PP mandatory soon in lots of categories. How will it affect your profits.

Buy it nows can be adjusted to absorb, but will it affect auction format sellers more?

Just had a quick look.

I'm sure the free domestic P&P option is going to drive sellers away especially if they're selling bulky items.

I hate the new look when you click on an item. It's too confusing and mashed up.

i could actually make a n extra 75p per game, but its not even worth it.. Honestly i think someone should seriously think about setting up a decent auction site with super low fees.. They could make a killing if its marketed right.

Cant read the ebay page at work, but have to ask why ebay are doing this?? I can understand that it may be a bit of a pi$$ take to charge 4.99 to ship a CD to someone, but surley the buyer can see the postage costs and if they are too high wont buy??

Although I do understand the concern about the free p/p - some sellers have been milking the postage costs.

Of all the complaints I and my friends have - it is about sellers who rip you off on p/p!

I have just has this happen today (well nearly I did not bid in the end).

I asked for combined shipping on several items I wantd to buy from this seller.

He offered to knock 50p off - so the p/p would have come to £10.99 for 4 items totalling £7.99.

I have done a quick check on the Royal Mail calculator and the cost should have been about £4.20..alllow some extra for wrapping.

Why do sellers do this?

He has lost a good sale.

It is sad the good honest sellers will end up loosing out over the rip off merchants - especially when profit margins are so tight in some areas anyway.

I already give 'free' P&P, in that all the costs are included in the price. I know that some of my buyers pick my items because of free P&P.... they tell me so, they say so in feedback. So I'm against compulsory 'free P&P', it takes away part of my 'edge...

Have to agree with that - as I look for free p/p I am aware the seller has covered that cost in their selling price - but that is no problem - at least I can see what my total costs will be before I bid.
